Am I imagining it, or does your kitchen seem to stay much cleaner when you dont cook animal products in it?

I have a question , is there a decent vegan product like vegetarian parmesan cheese? Thats the only dairy I eat.

The only one I'm aware of is Florentino Parmezano http://www.wheatanddairyfree.com/popboxes/pz00020.htm - I'm not sure how it actually tastes though as I haven't tried it. Apparantly you can get it in supermarkets (although not in mine, but they are small as I live in a rural area.

If you find something, let us know what you think of it.

    Hi there,

I invented a recipe which is frugal and as it's vegan, I thought I'd post it here too:

pasta frugalista makes 7 servings (batch cooking is a life saver!)

600g penne pasta from asda 2 3kg bags for £3 at the moment :money::money::money:=30p

    50ml of sunflower oil=5p

    3 cans chopped toms 3x33p=99p

1 jar asda olives stuffed with garlic= 83p

roughly chop the olives and cook with the tomatoes and oil untill it's reduced down to a thick sticky goop. Meanwhile cook and drain the penne. Add the penne to the sauce and stir thoroughly til the sauce has coated the penne. Divide into 7 servings, freeze.

    31p per serving:money::money::money: 453 calories per serving:T:T:T

    nomnomnom ;)

    hope that helps someone!

    love weezl x

No you're not imagining it! Ovens are a doddle to clean when there are no animal fats splattered all over the inside! Usually a quick wipe does the trick ;)

The only parmesan replacer I've found is called parmazano. It's in a small tub and you can buy it in Tesco.

There's a website called Vegfamily.com and this recipe is from it:-

    Sesame Parmesan
This is a delicious vegan substitute for Parmesan cheese.
    • 1/2 cup sesame seeds, toasted and cooled
    • 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast flakes
    • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
Coarsely grind ingredients together in blender. Store in covered jar.

    Makes about 1/2 cup.

I haven't tried it myself yet, but as it looks so easy I might go and make some now - I've got plenty of sesame seeds!

I think it would be great if people were to post what their meals are on a daily basis (or weekly, if you are that organised!) for inspiration for both vegans new and old and non-vegans that are interested in a varied diet!

I'd love to hear what anyone else is doing... please post!

    Hi Trow,

Welcome to the vegan thread. A couple of weeks ago, I posted on my blog what I was eating every day for a week. Just scroll down and you will see it. This may give you some ideas.

Today so far I have had:

Breakfast - cereal with soya milk and banana
Lunch - a wholemeal sandwich with weezl's lentil pate (very impressed with this, first time I have made it) and fruit

I'm not sure what I'm having for dinner yet. I didn't get the soup made otherwise I would have had some of that!

Murrell - I'll certainly take a look at that later (when I'm home) - love reading vegan blogs at the moment!
