If you're going raw, make sure you still eat cooked tomatoes, as lycopene is actually more easily absorbed from cooked tomatoes (hence the reason for ketchup counting as one of your 5 a day!).
Oddly enough why I said probably 80% raw and 20% cooked :rotfl: . There are some things I know that cooking can release more than it's natural state has. No idea why. Nature works so well for most things  .

Aaahh I see what the other poster means now, I mis-read their post at that point :o

Have you seen this raw brownie recipe? It's delicious  I improvised it a bit more, left out the coco powder, rolled the mix into balls then rolled them in coconut http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg64/Sleepymy/coconut.jpg?t=1237246371 Sooo good *dribbles*

I'd like to try to slowly introduce more raw foods, but only very simple recipes that take little energy to make.
They look so yummy   I think I know what I'm going to try and make tomorrow after I'm done out in the garden :D . Thank you so much for that.

DO IT! :D On a friends suggestion I subbed about 1/3 of the walnuts for hazelnuts and it worked out very well. I'm thinking of using different nuts and dried fruits to make the 'sweeties' next time. I'm reckon cranberry and pecan would be good.

  • Ok, i know its not even april yet, but we;) are having the most fantastic warm weather at the moment, the barbeque has just got to come out!
To old time vegans 'what do you like on the BBQ?'
I havent eaten meat for 20 years, but when the bbq comes out we tend to put on peppers, mushrooms and vege burgers and sausages. I have never been that keen on meaty style burgers and sausages, so was wondering if anyone had any yummy recipes that can be made and put on the bbq without falling apart!
    roll on the summer!

Nom, nom, nom! I'll have to leave out the peppers too (allergic!) but the rest is a go... now just have to talk my personal chef into cooking it for me :D

  • Why do people keep believing the raw foodie nonsense about "enzymes"?

By all means suggest that people eat more raw fruit and veg for better vitamins, fibre, and general wellness - but the enzymes in food are destroyed utterly as soon as it hits the acid in your stomach anyway, and only your internally created digestive enzymes do any work! Cooking does not, therefore make a ha'porth of difference in that particular field. There's a reason the pineapple diet never really worked the way they said it would...

I do wish some basic science could be applied BEFORE these claims get out into the public field - it's no wonder the omnivores think we're all bonkers!

    Try making your own kebabs.

I usually thread smoked tofu (it's slightly firmer so less chance of breakage), mushroom, red onion, large garlic cloves, pepper, courgette etc - any mixture will do and then baste with this sauce:
    Barbecue Marinade

    (Enough for 4-6 Kebabs)
    Prep time: 10 mins

    Ingredients:

    4 Tbsp Vegetable Oil

    2 Tbsp Lemon juice

    1 Tbsp Soya sauce

    1 Tbsp Vinegar

    3 Tbsp Tomato Sauce

    1 Tsp Mustard powder

    1 Tsp Mixed herbs

    1 Tsp Marmite

    Sugar

    Black pepper

    Sea salt

    Method:
1.Whisk all ingredients together until a smooth thick consistency is achieved.
2.Marinade food for at least 2 hours.
  • tofu kebabs sound great! i will be definately making those on saturday! just have to keep fingers and toes crossed it will still be t-shirt weather!

On the bbq I like to do aubergine slices. I thought I hated aubergine until I tasted these! Just thinly slice an aubergine, brush with olive oil and sprinkle with salt to counteract the bitterness, can also sprinkle or marinade with garlic or chilli etc... BBQ them and yum yum yum, they go really crispy and delicious!! Also veggie kebabs are always a winner- I will miss the halloumi cheese though I must admit!
