I'm sprouting some green lentils right now but have done chickpeas, aduki beans and mung beans before. You can also sproutand/or soak nuts, seeds as well as soak quinoa and other grains if you want to also :T . Sprouting your own is a lot cheaper than buying the packs from store but it can be a bit of trial and error to get it correct at first. Once you have it's very easy and well worth it.
I thought at first you ment sprouts the vegetable rather than bean/lentil sprouts was thinking about those in a sandwhich! Do you need any special equipment for sprouting?0 -
Kafkat The soup sounds lovely, but how much water do you add to it ?Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.

Just thought I'd drop in and let you all know that Tesco's organic medjool dates are a pound a packet atm. I know some don't shop in Tesco but thought I'd drop it in for those that do.
Perfect for making those raw brownies D>he stupid things you do, you regret... if you have any sense, and if you don't regret them, maybe you're stupid. - Katharine Hepburn0 -
Hi SueP
I don't know how much water I use sorry, it depends on the amount of split peas which varies and I just keep adding it as I go along until I get the consistency I like, which is a very thick soup. That isn't very useful if you just want to leave it to cook I know, sorry.0 -
Today was my cooking day. I am lazy with a capital L and so when the urge to cook takes me I cook loads.
Today I cooked:
16 portions of lentil & chickpea curry (my current favourite meal)
6 portions of veggie sausage & butterbean hotpot
4 portions of lentil bolognaise sauce
6 portions of 3 bean chilli
4 portions of chickpea & bean stew
So that's my food sorted for the next month :j
Only took 3 hours too.
Means that when Mr s gets home for work he cooks whatever meaty 'delight' he is having and chucks one of my portions mthe freezer in the microwave to heat up. Then all I have to do each day is throw some potatoes/rice/pasta in a pan.0 -

Don’t worry sleepymy I still have a lot of places to buy raw dates (which I’m not sure Tescos are) and have some in at the moment. The only problem is I’m out of walnuts(raw or not for that matter) which I forgot about when I replied to you and haven’t been able to go out to get since:o . I really want to try them as well

I have a sprouter that is jar like called the bio snacky http://www.sprouters.ca/html/biosnacky.html and one day would really love an automatic sprouter one dayalthough you do not need to buy these to be fair. I only have the bio snacky as my partner bought it for me. You could make your own buy using an old jar (such as a penut butter one) cut off a circle or square (whatever you want really) from the top of the lid, get some small mesh that what you use in it will not fall through and fix it to the lid and off you go a cheap version of it :money: .
The way to sprout is easy. I rinse and then soak what I'm using in the sprouter for 12 hours. Then 2-3 times a day you rinse what is in the jar and then rest it on something at an angle (if you look at the bio snaky jar that is the perfect angle). Depending on what you are sprouting will depend on how long it takes, usually 3-7 days really.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
I had a great time at the Vegan fair in Brighton today, there was lots of stalls selling all sorts of vegan products and a few for animal charities there was the usual crowds around any stall that was giving away free samples of food, I had trouble getting near most of them as I was in my mobility scooter, but I got d/h to push in for me a few times especially if it was chocolate, the Plamils orange and cranberry is gorgeous and I wish Id brought more than 1 bar now another favourite was at the Provemal stall and their blueberry soya yogurt, as I said I couldnt get near quite a few stalls and got a bit annoyed by how I seemed to be invisible to some of the stall holders when I was waiting to pay for something or ask a question, but others went out of their way to help me out.
I did enjoy it though and got a few bargains, even meat eating d/h had a good time although we had to go to his favourite burger stall when we came out
Did anyone else go ? did you enjoy it ?Real stupidity beats artificial intelligence every time.
