It is really stupid for Trading Standards to recommend that you go to a site that has no planning permission or been checked by the Health and Safety Executive.
What are Trading Standards going to do if your children are electrocuted due to unsafe electrical installations or attacked by the on site wolves.
Trading Standards are as much the problem if they are giving reckless advice like that. It is really heartwarming to see the people we pay to do a job find all manner of reasons why they can't do it.
Paying to go to a an event which has no planning or H & SE certification is a 'no brainer'. You don't have to sacrifice one or more of your children to gain a refund. Excuse my anger, but it is the muddle brained idiocy ofmoronic bureaucrats that allows jokers like these to run rings around the suthorities and the general public
My limited understanding of Health and Safety law leads me to believe that the HSE would be responsible for inspecting and certifying the fairground equipment, but not things like the 'Wolves' or the [strike]Grotty[/strike] I mean Grottos. If you have concerns about the health and safety, food safety etc you should direct them to the Environmental Health Department at the local council, I'm sorry I don't know which council office this is in.
I haven't read the whole thread, but I would be livid if this was me. Has anybody discussed a day of action or picket line to warn unsuspecting customers this weekend?
I do feel very sorry for the staff at the venue, and feel that whatever peoples' anger, there is no justification for assaulting them. It should be worth noting that an assault on a staff member MUST be reported to the HSE under RIDDOR regulations, regardless of whether it's an agency worker or someone directly employed. Also, if there's a lot of assaults, then there should be a Risk Assessment in place and appropriate control measures in place. I'd suggest a helmet and stab vest for Santa for starters...0 -
It might also help if he could explain why, reportedly, payments to his company, of which Victor Robert Mears is the director, are being sent to the address of someone of exactly the same name who is an undischarged bankrupt.
My request is phrased very correctly and properly. It would help if any others also received that instruction and could tell to what account their cheques were paid in.
I'll be making further enquiries in that area and I'll see what the regulatory authorities are doing about it.
Henry and Victor Mears are also related to Brighton and Hove City Councillor Mary Mears!!!!
You couldn't make this stuff up! :rotfl:
Apparently, they're "not a family to be messed with" owning a string of businesses across Brighton, including a cafe and fruit & veg store.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I hope the papers pick up on that and the thing about the different addresses.
I think it's fantastic what you've all done.Kind Regards

Their site's gone down again :j
I imagine that they are monitoring the forums and taking legal guidance from us
Their story about server problems is not very convincing as the links to other pages had all been removed, so they've edited the site and put back one page when it would have been easier to put back the whole thing unchanged. They realised that their claims were more fantasy than the Grotto, and thus exposed them to legal redress from unhappy customers.
I don't imagine Meridian TV or the BBC were too happy about the glowing endorsements that were included on the one remaining page. :rotfl:
I'll contact the Bankruptcy authorities tomorrow about the two Victors and ask if it's all down to human cloning .0 -
noticed this new addition to the site.
"Event Notice: We very much look forward to displaying an official statement from East Dorest Trading Standards as soon as this is made available to our website designer. Please return in the near future to read this statement"
Looks like they've got something to brag about maybe?0 -

Hi I made my 1st post yesterday; I am wheelchair bound with a very small child and was assured personally by staff at Lapland new forest prior to the purchase of tickets that there was full wheelchair access etc.... and of course it is now evident this was a lie. I telephoned consumer direct 08454040506 this morning and explained that as someone who cannot walk with a 7 month old strapped onto me in a wheelchair it would be very dangerous for my husband to attempt to push me through what can only be described as a quagmire from images that have surfaced and we cannot attempt this prior to requesting a refund. They agreed and the lady I spoke with had already spoken to 5 others who are either in a wheelchair or with children in a wheelchair this mornign worried for the very same reasons -- this place really could be dangerous to us!
Anyhow, she assured me that both HSE and Trading Standards had found there to be a problem with regard to disabled access and informed the owners Monday that this must be rectified asap if they did not recompensate disabled visitors and that they would be visiting the park again next week to check provisions had been made. I was advised in the meantime to write a letter to:
Lapland New Forest LTD
Unit 1 Wild Park House
Home Farm Rd
Brighton
E Sussex
BN1 9HT
and send it recorded delivery stating about how they advertise their suitability for wheelchair users and the phonecalls we made to make sure of this and how it is now apparent this is not the case and give them 7 days to respond with a refund or written assurance that it was now accessible to wheelchair users. i implore other disabled visitors and those with wheelchair bound children to do the same, it is not neccessary to risk injury to prove it, the photos in the media justify you not wanting to risk it esp as we have all been assured that it was perfectly accessible and paid the same amount as everyine else.
I have been told to contact them next week as they would have further information then.
Good Luck0 -
There's a few set of tickets on ebay (no surprise really) however only one of the sellers has the honesty to say why they are selling the tickets - pointing out the stuff raised in the forums - the others are using the 'i can't make it because it clashes with somethiing else' excuse...
however if people can claim a refund without actually attending, can they also resell the tickets issued to them. In all the confusion, some credit card chargers may well give the benefit of the doubt and just reimberse people regardless....0 -
The situation they have put you in mynci is disgraceful and sickening.
What would have happened if you had gone there without knowing about the situation ?
I can't wait to see the next apparition of the company website. I don't think they'll have time to make it legal, and I'll be interested to see if they still offer online booking. If not, then I guess that their bankers have pulled their merchant facility, which would be hardly surprising in the circumstances. If it's there I may be able to find more out about their banking arrangements, if not, I can't see how they can receive any more money - bearing in mind that they excluded cash payment on the site.
I have a sneaky feeling that they still need the people who have paid up front to come and pay for incredibly expensive food and extras to make it worthwhile.
Just adding a message from Trading Standards on the site is hardly likely to allay anyone's fears, in fact any mention of their involvement confirms that it is under scrutiny, and if it rambles on into irrelevant praise, that will be a giveaway that it's had extra polish added.0 -
Can aggrieved customers not sue in misrepresentation? A joint action would help spread legal costs.
Any ideas anyone?0
