thats good for them, something else cheap to go with their broadband Mr Brown is funding0

I wanted to check if it would work with broadband, and it only works with BT's broadband, not any one else's, I asked if it would work with O2, they said no.
Hopefully that only applies to people on LLU, as 'normal' broadband goes through BT networks leased by the ISP.

Eligibility for BT Basic is limited to the gateway benefits Income Support, Income based JSA and Pension Credit, in total disregard of those on Council Tax Benefit. It seems DWP and Ofcom have turned a blind eye to those living solely on Incapacity Benefit and those of us who cannot reliably leave the house are unable to take advantage of BT Basic.0

Everyone on council tax benefit to receive the reduction? 20% of all households? So everyone else has to pay £12.37 rather than £10.50 for rental?
Incapacity and DLA already include premiums.0 -
Hi I rang today about and was told Bt basic is charged @10p per min where standard rate is only 4p per min so unless you are a low consumer its not to good0

this is for people on low incomes and to do with Bts responisbilty to providing phone service to the less forunate in UK society. Ie people who are on the benefits mentioned in the original post. Bt Basic is not there for people who want a cheap line to stick their BB on.
Also having BB will almost certainly mean you are not eligable for Bt Basic, no matter what an advisor says as as soon as you go through to the Bt basic team within Bt they will tell you this. All hail the Jack Daniels Swozzler!:beer:0 -
If you end up making quite a few calls to 0845 numbers and not so many calls to 01/02 numbers it can still be worth while - as the connection fee is only 3p instead of 7p and the call rate is only slightly more at 3p/1p instead of 2p/0.5p (day / evening&weekend).0

ADSL definitely does not exclude you from eligibility (see subpart 3 in http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/Public/current/Cust_Opts_Res_boo/FrameworkImpl55289.htm#FrameworkImpl55289) - whether this is both Ipstream (i.e. via BT wholesale and any ISP) and LLU ADSL is another question.

does say "broadband from any ISP of your choice" - so the implication is LLU ADSL is allowed.0 -

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Remember that BT basic is also for Guaranteed Pension Credit receivers too.
Its a total rip-off. BT are just ticking the social tariff box.
My Mum asked about it but she would LOSE the 'FREE BT WEEKEND CALLS! As someone said; "give one one hand take with another..."
God, they are evil people. Its simply a very small (£1.50) step up from the "Incoming Calls Only" connection!
BT deserve to lose any remaining customers they are still clinging onto...0
