Cook Time: 5 Minutes Ready In: 2 Hours 15 Minutes
Yields: 20 servings
"Sekanjabin is a refreshing Persian drink. This recipe makes a ginger-flavored syrup which, when stirred into water, makes a spicy, refreshing soft drink."

800 g white sugar
590 ml water
235 ml red or white wine
vinegar
45 g minced fresh ginger

1.Boil the sugar and water together in a large saucepan over high heat for 2 to 3 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat, and stir in the vinegar and minced ginger.2.Allow mixture to cool to room temperature, then strain out the minced ginger with a fine sieve. Store at room temperature in a sterile container.3.To use, stir 1 part syrup into 4 to 5 parts water; serve cold with ice if desired.

What to do with the pods
The discarded pods make a delicious, velvety broad bean soup with an intriguing flavour reminiscent of green tea. Saut! an onion with a couple of cloves of garlic, then add the chopped pods (and a diced potato for a thick soup). Cover with vegetable bouillon and simmer until soft. Liquidise, then sieve, adding seasoning and cream if you like.
Before you rush to pod the beans, remember that tiny, finger-sized pods can be cooked and eaten whole like French beans.0 -

Thats what I did with the ends of mine - wet them with a bit of water before pinching them together. I have some meauring cups that I brought back from USA (1 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/3 cup, 1/4 cup) and I tend to use those. I have just filled the 1 cup size with water and poured it into a measuring jug and it was 250ml. HTH! I think Asda sell the measuring cups if you wanted to get a set. I find them easier to use than getting out the scales all the time!! Easy way to keep the ends of bagels together is to form them a different way. Rather than make a long sausage and join the ends, make a ball of dough, stick a floured finger through to make a hole and gently widen that by rolling the bagel around your finger.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070

just had a taste of the broad bean and pod curry with lentils, and it is vvvv good. And cos the broad beans were free, it's a penny a portion!!! Even with rice thats a 5 penny dinner!!!:money: I'm so excited!

wow thats impressive Mrs W!! Even for you! The only thing is now that you have to set it even lower!!! Can you make a whole meal totally free!! Had to laugh cos when Mr weezl & I were investgating chucks N said you couldnt eat the chickens after they had finshed their laying cos they werent part good...I giggled & when asked why responded "you havent met his (Mr Weezl's) wife! ps..time for the blog me thinks Mrs W...was thinking on this yesterday and my reasoning is as follows. With all due respect to people like Shirley who was lurking last week and having MET and SEEN Mr & Mrs Weezl I can confirm that they do eat, dont go hungry and while spending little is not what I could do (cos I have recently recognised a tendency to rebel - even if only against myself lol!!) its proof that you can live cheaply and happily without getting scurvy or eating the same thing all day...so Mrs Weezl if you have a blog with can detail the detail and counteract the perception that this ere challenge is "extreme"...Its not extreme its just our perception (partly due to excessive advertising in my book) that we have to spend loads to be happy which as we all know is rubbish!! So there we go this is why I think you should blog..my two penneth!! A bit much thought this time of day mind!
