NAME: Rich Tasting Economical Tea Bread or Bara Brith in Welsh

MAKE and BUY

COST: Less then £5.00

DETAILS:
Recipe:

1LB Value Mixed dried fruit
1/2 pint strong cold tea
8oz Valve SR Flour
4oz Value Brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspn mixed spice-optional

Put dried fruit in large bowl, pour overv the tea, stir, and leave to soak overnight. If in a hurry, use hot tea, and soak for at least 2 hours. Add sieved flour, brown sugar, beaten egg, mixed spice, stir until well mixed. place in a greased lined 2lb loaf tin, bake at gas mark 4/350F/177C for 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 hours, until bread is dark brown and firm to touch. Turn out onto a wire tray.

FOR THE GIFT

Make the above Bara Brith.

Buy 2 LB loaf tin on market - cost about £1.50 to £2.00

Print out a copy of the above recipe on coloured paper/cardboard, decorated with holly round the edges. Laminate if you can get this done for free somewhere.

Put the recipe card in the bottom of the loaf tin, wrap the COLD Tea Bread/Bara Brith in cling film, put in the new loaf tin. Buy Christmas celophane from the local florist for less than 50p. Wrap the whole present with the celophane, tie garden green twine round the top of the celophane, leaving a fluted top, and string dangling down to tie a home made gift tag, of a dark green leaf from the garden (waxy type of leaf). Write your message on the leaf with silver pen.

Viola-tasty, home made, cheap gift, with the potential for the recipient to make the same themselves after Xmas
