British Gas Homecare package
Evening, I was just hoping to pick a few peoples brains. Do you think it is worth having a British Gas Homecare package, i.e. the one that sorts your boilder out in a breakdown, includes the radiators. Its £16 a month, money is a bit tight at the moment and we have been in our house a year now and it hasn't been serviced…

Ideal Concord CX170 question
I am looking at our energy costs for the first time. We have a 20 year old Ideal Concord CX170 with the following statistics: input 62.3 kWh output 49.82 kWh 170 000 Btu/h It seems to work fine but our gas bills are pretty high, we had a quote for £6000 to put in a new boiler which seemed very high and would take a long…

underfloor heating of a groundfloor flat
I just made an offer for a ground floor flat which has under-floor heating. The current energy effeciency of the property is 72. I think that's quite decent. But the HIP also said the current energy efficiency performance of electric underfloor heating is poor. For this over 900 sqft flat, the current heating cost is £221…

New Central Heating - any advice?
Hi I have storage heaters in the house but I am planning to have these removed and a new system installed. The only problem is I have no idea what to get. Our house is 28 metres away from a gas main and I have been quoted £2900 to get linked to the mains - is this reasonable? On top of this I would obviously need the new…

multifuel stove is too warm/firebricks?
Advice appreciated. I have a Dunsley Highlander 7 that is keeping me too warm, I think the 5 would have been more suitable. Can I line it with firebricks to reduce the inside of the stove. If so do I cement them in or just push them in? Being stingy with the fuel means dirty windows, so I am assuming dirty flue pipe. Any…

New Central Heating
Hi, Had a central heating system installed last week. I was left the manual for the boiler and the room thermostat, but not any benchmark log book or certificates (not quite sure what else i should have). Is this common practice do installers normally leave them at the end of the job, or do they send them to you?

Which boiler cover?
I'm considering taking out cover for my boiler as it is around 7 years old. I was looking at British Gas Homecare 100 but after reading all the comments here, British Gas may not be the best option. I do not know of any local companies who I can trust which offer the cover, does anyone have any suggestions?

Solar heating - good or bad?
Just about to renew/replace the central heating system on our new place. It's currently LPG-fired but I was looking into alternatives or supplemental heating systems such as ASHP and solar. Will the oil fumes ever disappear?
There was a bad oil leak at the bottom of the boiler due to perished rubber hoses. The fumes were throughout the house and can still be smelt 2 days later despite the hoses having been replaced. The engineer mopped up the oil leak but does anyone know how long it takes for the smell to go? In case anyone asks, the boiler…
