What was the wording of the question?
Has he got any convictions or prosecutions pending?

I can’t find one that words it that way. The wording of the question or assumption is critical.

One doesn’t seem to ask but the policy requires you to inform them if anyone is convicted of anything.

Another assumes - You and anyone that lives with you has never been convicted of or received a police caution or been charged with but not yet tried for any offence,

With either, he could end up with a policy that won’t pay out and/or a cancelled policy – both to be avoided.

If her conviction is likely, he may have to bite the bullet and go for a specialist such as Homeprotect. He should have the option to cancel the current policy. Personally I wouldn’t give the current insurer the opportunity to cancel.

It was asked and taken on phone, not online. It was worded and asked the way I mentioned earlier.
So how would you go about not giving the opportunity?

    Update..

They have now closed the policy as he asked, but they were telling him he would have to pay a cancellation fee of £18.
He protested they had not informed him of this and cooling off period with insurance is usually 14 days, he was told things have changed and they would pull the call. he agreed and they rang back within 10 minutes instead of 72 hours they said it would take initially.
So they charged around 55p for the time the insurance was held.
Just thought you may want to know the outcome and a heartfelt thanks to all of you who took the time to advise.
    Cheers Guys

My home insurance claim has been handled so badly that after 8 weeks of no response to my complaints, I have had to pass it to the Financial Ombudsman (who are overwhelmed with complaints, so very slow). Home Protect allege small print (which they are unable to show!) which says our cover for “the cost of legal and professional fees, costs and expenses up to £100,000,” does not include necessary surveyors' fees or the £500 + VAT for their solicitor to instruct the surveyor. We reluctantly paid for the full surveyor's report but as a result of us not paying the solicitor's additional £600 odd, they have dismissed our claim.

Have you posted on MSE about the original problem with the house?

Does it relate to subsidence damage?

Using a combination of the comparison sites and direct sites mentioned on MSE I managed to get my house and contents insurance right down to under £200 for the year :T

    hi everyone,

I am one of those paranoid people and very scared of taking out wrong policies.

anyway I was thinking should I go to a broker? because I don't understand home insurance clearly even though I have read it many a times. I have tried Tesco 274 and l and g around 270 and of course l ang g comes out better if that voucher of around 70 comes through meaning my building and contents insurance will be around 190 for a house value of 250000

so what do you think? helps please

    Hi there,
I went through this site to get my home insurance with Legal and General for the £70 Amazon voucher. Very happy with the price but received no confirmation about the vouchers. I know that I receive them 90 days after the policy starts but expected some sort of email?
Has anyone done the deal, is this what happens normally?
    Thank you

Our home burnt down a few days ago. My son and I have lost virtually everything apart from the clothes we were wearing at the time. Any advice, guidance, checklists, pitfalls to avoid etc when dealing with insurance etc would be really, really helpful.
