Avast and Comodo problems

Dear All,
I have been trying to sort out a problem with my computer for about a week and a half now. Basically its been rebooting itself about 2-3 minutes into every session.
Rolling back with system restore sorts the problem for that session, however when restarting, it goes back to the familiar rebooting cycle.
After trying everything, yesterday I removed both Comodo and Avast from the system ( I have pulled out the ethernet cable as well so as not to leave myself completely unprotected).
The upside is the computer works perfectly now. It seems that when uploading the latest version of Avast 4.8 i think, then I get conflicts with Comodo.
Has anyone else had these issues? I would love to have any feedback before I try and do a reinstall of these programs. I have used zonealarm and AVG before and would rather not go back as I liked the performance of comodo and avast together. Are there any other combinations I should try??
Thanks in advance Billy

You could try AntiVir instead of Avast. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -

Sounds like it. Just follow the steps in the removal guide. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Im not sure as to the version, tradetime. Its now wiped off my home pc howver I dont remember any auto updates occuring so version could have been 2.4.
It just seems strange that the pc starts to go nuts after Avast 4.8 downloads on reboot following a successful system restore to the older version.0 -

I'll give it a try, but I'll have to reload Avast anyway to get online to download the malware guide links.
Another night sitting in front of pc waiting for system scans. Other half is starting to get brassed off with the amount of time I have already spent.0 -
I now use Comodo firewall and the new Comodo free antivirus beta. Seems very stable and certainly a lot better than AVG8.0

Comodo brought out a new version a few months back that contains a HIPS component, if you have had your version more than say, 6 months, and not updated it then it is likely you had 2.4 which works fine on my machine with the Avast update. I will update Avast at the weekend on another OS which has the new Comodo and see what happens.Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!
