    You are wasting your time.

Backup your data and make a list of your programs, insert the XP disk, reboot , format, install XP, install only one anti-virus and only one anti-spyware. Switch on windows firewall.

That's what PC World's Techguys would tell you to do! Are you a Techguy?

  • At the moment PC is running continuously with AVG, however any system scan even the online ones and it crashes with BSOD. So Im a bit loathed to do anything right now. Two weeks of trying have rather taken their toll.

No, I am a veg gardner at the mom, :rotfl:but I do extract my main income from designing and implementing computer networks.
It's about the time the op will need to put in to this now and in the future, he can play with the PC all day but if all he want is a stable PC that work than I would go for a fresh install (but yes he would need an XP disk).

I will update Avast at the weekend on another OS which has the new Comodo and see what happens.

Your problem would appear not to lie specifically with Avast and Comodo, but perhaps something else that reacts with either one or both of them. I have now installed Comodo's latest firewall into a snapshot along side Avast 4.8 and they co-exist quite happily, so that is Avast 4.8 alongside Comodo 2.4 and 3.0. Not much more I can do I'm afraid.
Hope for the best.....Plan for the worst!

  • Thanks for all your help Tradetime.

I am keeping my fingers crossed at the moment all seems stable with the latest AVG and windows firewall. Only thing I cant do is a full system scan without a crash.
Things are a little bit slower than usual but nothing I cant live with. I have just inherited a couple of newer PC's that have been discarded following an estate agents refit. I will shortly get these wiped and my stuff transferred.
