BT - Effective Penalty for switching

I am moving home and luckily I had a long period between exchange and completion -30 days.

However on the day of Exchange I had quite a lot on my mind - and waited 2 days before starting to ask for final statements; look at new suppliers at the new address; fill out forms online; register for new suppliers portals etc etc..

Naturally I looked at BT. I currently have BT Broadband & Landline.

I wanted to switch...and effectively I have been charged a penalty of
1. Didnt give 30 days notice so I have to pay for another months DD of £43
2. I stupidly paid my line rental annually in advance - and I am only 4 months in. So BT are not refunding the balance. I am losing out on a refund of £133

So total penalty even giving 28 days notice = £176

Thank you BT for your excellent customer service values.:T

MSE users would keep an eye out .
BT are raising some prices giving some users a free get out cancel contract .That includes refund on ALR .

So it's BTs fault you couldn't be bothered contacting them? Awesome.

Why didn't you transfer BT to the new property?

Standard notice period for many, many services. Not limited to BT, or even just ISPs, by far.

If you have already exchanged then I assume that a property purchase was at the forefront of your mind just 4 short months ago. So the question I would be asking is why did you renew your LRS?

Alternatively, you could also look at it as a penalty you have forced on yourself. Both of your 'issues' could have been nullified by forward thinking.

However, as said above, you may get lucky if you have received the price rise email. Although you don't say the timeframe and if you have actually completed and moved yet. Or even if you have indeed now cancelled.

Or just never accept any responsibility!
