    Weekly Flylady Thread 16th April 2018 15th Apr 18 at 6:49 PM
What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.

Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!

Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.

Thank you Natty for last week's thread

Please follow the forum rules on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!

The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!

Every room comes back around next week so please don't stress about catching up

These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.

Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.

A few of the basics before we start the week

Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!

Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.

Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.

Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.

Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis

HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
    WM ~ Washing machine
    TD ~ Tumble dryer
    SC ~ Slowcooker
    BM ~ Breadmaker
    DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
    DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
    OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
    NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
    ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!
    MAD half hour
    - Mad is the abbreviation for Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE stooping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference - so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will get the job done!

Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

    Mademoiselle
I'm in this week and hopefully have a bit of motivation. Off to a good start as I got quite a bit of flying done in the kitchen and back room yesterday. OH left to go away for the week early yesterday so I spent the rest of the day doing bits and bobs in the kitchen, the result is the sink and cooker top have been cleaned, worksurfaces are clear, fridge cleared out and the door shelves washed. Loads of stuff thrown out, the result is the bin is just about full and I have got a couple of bags to go to charity. It feels nice to have a bit of space here and there, still a long way to go. Also cleaned loos and descaled shower head and did 3 WM & TD.

Slinky doing ok, now 3.6 KG down since start of year which is a bit more than 1/2 a stone and as I set a target of 10 kgs or about 2 stone I realise that I am on target as we are about 1/4 of the way through the year. I have set myself some intermediate targets for along the way, and have reached the first (under 70 kgs) and am heading towards the next 68 kgs which will have me no longer overweight, only 1.5 kgs to go. Then 65 kgs, this is where I would like to be for the summer and I will then review what I want depending on how I feel (and look) and any impact on my blood pressure. 60 - 63 is probably the ideal range or maybe just under 60 but that is much too daunting at the moment. I think setting too hard a target at the start was what made it seem too hard.

    Better get a wiggle on

    So far
    Up, showered and dressed
    Bed made
    Coffee drunk
Recyling put out (going to try and do this in the morning and evening to make kitchen a bit nicer)

Time to get ready and go to work.

    Thanks for listening
    xx

    Morning
Thank you for the lists. I'm definitely in. Am currently writing my name in the thick dust that is the dining room table. But the kitchen is relatively tidy after clearing up completely after dinner last night and sorting all packed lunches.

School back today, and a full day at job 1, but I'm hoping that more daylight hours and sunny weather will kick me into action this evening.

Well done on the slinky progress, Mademoiselle. I need to figure out how to get back into it, as I'm obviously not going to go out jogging anymore since my running mate got injured and has now had to reluctantly hang up her trainers.

Have a lovely day, and catch you all later. X

Failing miserably - still no weight lost despite only eating one small meal per day. And if you saw my post on last week's thread, you'll know I'm failing on the Scrimpers front too, having had four annual bills to pay, and having in desperation ordered a vibrating under-pillow alarm clock because I can't hear any of the three alarms we have in the bedroom when I'm not wearing my hearing aids.
I think I may just shoot myself and be done with it.

LW you are not failing, annual bills are acceptable, and so is the alarm you need, I don't hear my alarm or phone at all, but I have a cat that is set to 6am!!
Slinkies, you and I can start again this week, I must try harder, and where possible I must take more exercise.

    Whole house is clean!
    All washing out on line
Bins cleaned, just need them to be emptied then I can power wash
Food bought and away, hope fully enough for the week.
Just eating then off outside to take old rusty bbq apart so I can get it in my car and to the tip
    Sun, Sea
    Slinky is back on!

Relief here too ATB...Tiny accepted for our lovely local primary school. Oh, my days they're gonna be sorry about that

Both turfed out to breakfast club first thing, so I've made a good start today.

I have cleaned the dining table, refilling the depleted fruit bowl and remembering to water my succulents whilst in there. I am by no means a gardener, so this will be a test for me to keep the poor things alive. I also changed the batteries in the air-freshener (plus the fragrance canister as the one we had was a sickly, overpowering scent. All plastic and metal duly recycled.

The kitchen is a WiP as I have a whole lamb to butcher and am only about a third of the way through. I was super excited to get to use my vacuum packer (yes, I am that sad) to make the lamb freezer-ready.

I haven't managed the cupboards, but did de-mankify the WM drawer in between cycles. Totally grots. WM is already on its third load this morning, poor thing.

I popped out to the jewellers to collect my new-to-me earings and am proudly wearing them as they are so sparkly! In and out of the shop in five minutes and was able to park outside, which literally never happens, so win-win as no parking charge.

Stopped for some fruit and veg on the way home. Who knew that pizza counted as fruit simply because it is ham and pineapple?...

Having a quick cuppa then back into the dark hole of Calcutta to clean the hob and oven. It's not actually too bad, so I'm hoping DSS might keep things clean and tidy when he and his GF come to visit next month.

Cor, what a ramble - sorry ladies! I'll shut up now.

    Laters x
