O/S Daily Saturday 12th August 2017

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Cloudy start to the day but dry underfoot and not raining at the moment.

DH and myself up and enjoying peaceful cuppas - we're both working today, he has a much earlier start than me though.

Dinner last night was chicken and ham kievs, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg for the menfolk, I had giant cous cous stir fry veg mix and baked fish - very nice it was too. I have several options for tonight's dinner, so we'll see what we're doing and what people want nearer the time.

I have a load to put in the wash, mainly work clothes etc, I'll get that going before I leave for work so it can go out and line dry before it's needed Monday morning.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone

((Hugs)) to those that are having a difficult time at the moment and not sleeping very well.

I took a sleeping pill last night and went to bed early. I slept for nearly 7 hours, so that is really good. I’m not sure how much difference it has made to how I feel yet though because I’ve only been up for half an hour. I’ll know when I’ve finished this cup of tea, had a shower and got dressed :)

It was a lovely day here yesterday and I managed to get to go for a walk in the park in the afternoon, and I met up with someone who I used to work with for a coffee and a chat.

Nothing much planned this weekend. I need to pop out for some milk this morning and may have a look around the market while I am in the town, but there haven’t been that many stalls there since the start of the summer which is a shame.

Other than that I will try and go for a walk, read and perhaps watch a couple of things that I have recorded.

I hope that you all have as good a day as possible whatever you are doing.
  • morning folks and thanks for the thread NMLC.

Feeling much better this morning and also slept better too. Thanks for the good wishes yesterday. Mr TA was allowed home yesterday afternoon as his temp was down and he looked much better too. He'd had a bad night, up and down to the loo every hour, but we know this will ease off a bit (hopefully) as it did after the first stent.

DS and gf arrived in Northumberland safely yesterday for their long w/e away. Likewise, DD, bf and the 3 DGDs who arrived safely in Scarborough for their long w/e away. This to "celebrate" eldest DGDs birthday - 13 - a teenager at last. Last night they were all going to Jess Glynne's open air concert so I hope they didn't get the wet evening we had!

So all is well with my world - for today at least! Well it would be even better if I didn't have to clean all round as it's not been touched all week. (I'm not that bothered either!) I also need to pop down for a top up shop this afternoon and buy some sensible food. After living off take-away rubbish from the hospital shops most of the week I feel really bloated and must get back to some sensible eating.

Btw GINTOT it was nice of you to think about lifts to St James' but it really is quicker and easier from here to use the 2 bus and 1 train option to get there. The drive to Leeds is horrendous and can take almost twice as long, depending on traffic. Most folk go by train, although I am happy enough to accept a lift up and down to our station as our bus service to town reduces to one an hour outside peak times and I begrudge forking out for a taxi if there is someone around to run us down to the station!

And talking of driving!! Mr TA had just completed his "ban" of not driving for 4 weeks after his hand op and yesterday he was told he mustn't drive for 2 weeks after this recent op! He isn't best pleased!!

Well folks quiet jobs await (Mr TA still asleep) so (HUGS) for all the poorlies, sad or worried who want them. I will catch up on posts when time permits. Have a good day if you can and take care xx

    Morning everyone,

Glad that you have had a better night Holly hopefully you can gradually chip away at the sleep deprivation.
Fingers crossed that Mr TA continues to improve.
Dull and overcast here, have already taken the little dog out for a walk but my big girl refused to leave her bed so didn't come.
I have woken up with an itchy and sore swollen eye, fingers crossed it's not conjunctivitis. We are meant to be going horse racing this afternoon but will see how I feel, we didn't pre-book tickets due to the weather so no money lost if we don't go.
I will need to whizz through with the hoover and mop the floors but other than am fairly up to date, have just taken some sausages out of the freezer so easy supper for tonight.
Have a good day folks x

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Yay, we made it to the weekend! It's a bit grey out at the moment with rain forecast later. Steve wanted to get some gardening done today but it looks unlikely. Anyway, everyone is fast asleep and I even got a lie in till 6.30 :).

Thank goodness I don't have to think about what to cook for the next couple of days as Steve always takes over the kitchen on the weekend. I made a lasagne yesterday which is always a popular choice.

My lovely cmht lady got in touch yesterday with an offer of a chat over the phone but I didn't want to as things seem to have settled for now and I didn't want to rake it all up again. I will stick to the original plan of meeting her on Tuesday and going out in the car with her. Becky had a bad case of paranoia last night but she managed to send me a text so I raced upstairs to get her out of her room and into the relative normality of the living room where we watched some rubbish telly and chatted about things while we had a cuddle. She felt a bit better after a couple of hours and went off to bed quite happily.

I spent a while yesterday organising my knitting patterns and yarn and now I have an idea of what I want to make over the autumn and winter. I have decided to abandon making baby clothes as I am rubbish at doing the necklines and button bands etc. I will stick to making toys as they are much more forgiving of mistakes. I have enough wool to last me through the next 10 years probably so I don't have to worry about that.

I was glad to hear that Mr TA was home safe and sound. Hopefully the next couple of weeks will go quickly and he will be able to drive again. I also hope his new stent works well and the trips to the loo decrease. Sending hugs to you Travelling Abuela too as I know how hard it is to be a worrier xx

Glad to hear you finally had some sleep Hollyharvey xx

Thanks for starting the daily nmlc, I have a box of giant cous cous in my cupboard that I bought on a whim and don't really know what to do with it. Did you add anything to it or just eat it plain? xx

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care x

    Morning dumpling

The giant cous cous was a frozen packet mix with added veg from Aldi - although I did add more veg - peppers and mushrooms. If you wanted to use it plain I think using stock would be better as it would be too bland without. Perhaps use some herbs and spices - whatever you like. I don't imagine it's very nice plain as it doesn't have much flavour.

    Keep safe and well x

Dumpling I'm glad that things have settled a bit for you, you sound much more upbeat this morning. I hope that you manage to have a good weekend.

TA I'm pleased that Mr TA is home and that things are a bit better for you today.

Lainey I love going horseracing. My late father was a bookmaker and owned a couple of racehorses so I was brought up at going racing. Enjoy your day if you do go.

dumpling as nmlc advises use stock with the couscous, I also like it with grated zest of lemon, cumin seeds and sultanas, gives it a slightly Moroccan taste.
Holly I was brought up on racing too as darling Dad was in stables at Newmarket before the war, he's where I get my love of all things horsey from :)

Good Morning chums and thanks for the kick start nmlc.Sun is up and looks to be a reasonable day outside .I have a friend coming this morning for coffee so I am going to knock up a quick sponge cake in a minute.

Tomorrow I have to run DGS Ben to Gatwick late afternoon as he is off to meet his g/f grandparents in France for a few days,he will be back on Wednesday and our holiday start on Friday :):):)
Running down all the fresh food stuff in the fridge over the next few days,I only have three dinners to cook between now and then as I am out all of the rest of the evenings :).I got all my ironing done and put away last night at least. I hope the weather keeps on brightening up,think we have had enough rain to last us :)

Good to hear that Mr TA is progressing and home and well done dumpling for being there for your DD.

Right must get a wriggle on Have a good day chums what ever you are doing and I hope the sun comes out and shines down on you all

Another quick post from me as him indoors has gone hunter gathering to Morr*sons and is not now bugging me with pacing up and down because of Microsoft updating his laptop, sigh.
Washing on the line, it might dry or at least be less wet.
Dumpling I'm glad to read that things feel better for you, hope it continues. I make a lot of baby clothes and I prefer button bands that are knitted on rather than the ones you make separately and sew on, they seem to end up neater. I like toymaking best too.
I do couscous with stock plus some fennel seeds and caraway seeds, I find it very bland otherwise.
I might have some toast now, I made a loaf that has turned out a bit heavy but makes cracking toast.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
