OS Daily thread Monday 5th January 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Hello Everyone,

Back to the old routine. I've been up for an hour now, lunches made last night, dishwasher emptied, porridge made and eaten along with the first coffee of the day drunk. Now off for my shower and back to work.

I'm going to walk to the station, see if I can't start working off some of those celebration lbs :)

Happy Birthday to anyone who has one today and I hope your days are productive and rewarding. I'll pop back later today to catch up.

    xx

I am so glad that life can get back to normal again. Christmas seemed to last forever! Plans for today are: Arrange boiler service, set up fundraising page for 'Jantastic', get eyebrows waxed, check to see if there are any suitable Ramblers walks in the near future, studying and a Mr S delivery. It's going to be a busy day :)

Been up since 5am and done dw and got a load of washing done and in tumble. Dog fed and walked. and fish fed. Now for breakfast and 5 mins peace before DH comes back from gym and DD2 gets out of the shower.
Dinner for tonight is cottage pie which is already made in the fridge and just needs reheating so easy day there.
Found out yesterday that my boss will not be in for a while as he has torn his intercostal muscles from coughing so it will be difficult at work as we will be a man down, but we will cope.
Anyhoo birthday wishes to all that are celebrating today and hugs to all that need them xx
    Bright Blessings xx

    Morning all,

Back to work for me too and OH, dd has another week before uni starts so is still in bed (lucky thing). It was a bit of a shock getting up so early this morning especially after ten days of getting up when I want, but its good to be getting back into a routine.

Dinner tonight will be recycled roast from yesterday we had a bit of Irish beef from Mr T which was absolutely delicious and there is a big chunk left along with some roasties and gravy, just need to do some veg and some roasties for veggie dd (ours were cooked in the meat fat). DD can do the extra bits as she is at home so a nice easy meal after the first day back.

We get a mix up of clients every new year, they get to change groups if they choose to so will be a few weeks of getting used to some new faces.

    Have good days all xx

ps meant to say I have started my sistercas fund for next Christmas :D

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark, but doesn’t look so frosty this morning, just a bit blowy but dry underfoot at the moment.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and gone to work. DS2 still in his pit, as he doesn’t go back to school until tomorrow.

Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, served roasties, mash, carrots, broccolli, peas, Yorkshires, stuffing and gravy with it, it was delicious and managed to use up LO’s, also managed to strip meat from carcass and that’s now in the fridge to be used either tonight or tomorrow night for a meal, I’m thinking of a chicken and mushroom risotto. I’ll see what sort of day we have today (and if I feel like cooking when I get in) – it’s likely to be a nightmare as it’s near the first of the month and management decided that we wouldn’t open last Friday – some of the reason we had such a busy morning on Saturday and today will be as bad – think I’m on Reception too, deep joy! Will stop off on my way into work to pick up some more milk, at least we’ll be able to get a cuppa.

I’m quite looking forward to getting back into a “normal” routine, I find it quite comforting, how sad is that!

I applied for another credit card over the weekend, it has a very long 0% balance transfer on it, so that’s why I went for it, I’ve received an email to say I’ve been accepted and all docs and cards are being sent out, also completed the bit asking if I wanted to do a balance transfer will make sure that it’s all been done when it arrives, that should assist with getting the cc paid off, I’m really going to try hard to get rid of the balance’s on any cards then go down to just having a 1 cc that we use. We’re going to pay a lump sum of our main cc when DH gets his payout from his savings plan, that should hit the bank account next week, we’re saving a good lump of it – we’re putting that in the building society account, and that will bring the balance back up and over what was in there originally. We’ll also have some left so will use that amount to decrease the overdraft too. Going to also be very careful with my grocery spending as it’s hideous, and needs to brought down to a much more sustainable amount.

Have a good Monday everyone x

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

The frost and fog cleared up quickly yesterday but it was a bit misty all day. Quite dark too, apart from an hour of bright sun in the middle of the day. It was nice and cosy in the house, with the heating on and a couple of scented candles on the go :D

I forgot about my houseplants, they haven't been watered for a couple of weeks and are a bit droopy. They're dusty too, I think I'll give them all shower then let them stand in the water in the bath for a while.

I'm getting low on shredded paper so will get the shredder working in a mo. I should have lots left, but mr tru gets carried away in the chicken shed and flings loads of it everywhere.

I've started a new blanket for myself, for Christmas :D So there's no rush, I can take my time with it. Mr tru wants one too, I can feel a large yarn order coming on, lol. I have other things planned so I'll work on the blankets in between other makes.

First day back at my usual swimming time this morning. Bbbrrr!

Still eating out of stock cupboards and freezer, meal planned for next seven days so will shop later, mainly for fruit and veg.

All the days are the same for us now but I remember that back to work and school feeling well after Christmas, normally the schools just went back, it snowed and they closed again.

Hugs where needed and keep warm

Fish fed, hubby & I have a cuppa each & I've had some porridge.

Another one who's back to work today, I'm expecting it to be manic as everyone will be putting their lesson plans in for printing.

Hubby starts back at work today too but not until 2pm, he's there until 10pm.

I'm going to DD2's after work as her husband is at work & she still can't do much.

No cooking for me this week, hubby doesn't want to eat when he gets home so late & I'll make do with a snack.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Back into our old routine this morning at last, the kids and hubby seem to have been home for ever :). Hubby has gone off to work ok and the girls are running around making packed lunches etc. I'm having a second cup of tea and planning my day.

My eldest DD has signed up for a local half marathon so I will be looking after my grandson while she goes for a run later. I will need to tidy up so I will put him to work with an old duster :D. I'm hoping my friend will pop in later too as I haven't seen her over Christmas.

I'm making turkey curry for tea but will be leaving out the naan bread and poppadums as hubby wants to lose a few pounds. We watched the Hairy Dieter's programme last night and he is all fired up to get more healthy. I have pointed out there is not much point in eating smaller portions if you then make yourself a couple of cheese sandwiches before going to bed :rotfl:.

I will be catching up on some of the never ending washing today as well as tidying and I need to bake a cake for the girls to have after their tea. I have a couple of lemons in the fridge so lemon drizzle it is. I will start to declutter our kitchen today as well as there is very little space to put anything .

nmlc - I have just sorted out a balance transfer as well with the aim of reducing our debts. I really need to pay off as much as possible before the BT runs out. It's made me realise how much I supplemented our income with using credit cards. It's actually quite difficult to reign in my spending but it's starting to cause me to lose sleep so it needs sorting.

Well that's all my waffle for now, hope you all manage to have a great day whatever you are up to. Take care xx
