Morning all. Not as cold here this morning but looked pretty miserable peeping through the blinds.
I've just been chopping up a pack of cooking bacon for soups, omelettes etc. It's usually pretty good value for money from Sainsburys but I was disappointed with this, lots of fat and rind concealed in the middle!! Mind you I did get a few other bargains when I popped in yesterday "just for a few bits" - famous last words! Mincemeat at 5p a jar so a few jars now in my cupboard. I'd only gone for fruit, salad and veg but found a few packs of reduced plaice and cod in my trolley too! I was so determined too not to buy any more food for the freezer and I fell at the first hurdle! Next week I shall be back at Aldi as I seem to be able to stick to my list better there!
I have a parcel to collect this morning from the Sorting Office in town. We were out when they tried to deliver it Saturday. A new hot air brush to replace my current one which has no effect at all on my wayward hair.
Can't wait to get my hands on it!
As it's less cold I want to tackle the freezer in the garage today that I use for foraged fruit and assorted veg. It's a small chest one and impossible to keep tidy, despite trying out a box system I devised for it! I need to take stock of what's in there as it will be foraging time again before we know it and I still have loads to use up!

Hi everyone,
We had a change of plans yesterday and ended up driving to London to take DD and BF the presents they had left at ours. They need to send a couple back this week. We had a lovely pub lunch, although expensive, in fact DD complained about the cost of hers which amounted to about 2 cauli florets in a bit of oil and they took it off the bill.
They have more or less decided on the venue for the wedding which means it will be taking place on 20 June so lots of hard work in store.
Have a good day.0 -
Morning all!
Working from home today, back in tomorrow, festive break well and truly over!
The farmer opposite is trimming the hedges so my view across has been opened up again, looks a bit tidier too:)
Made a St Clements posset from this months GH yesterday to use up LO cream -they reckoned it would serve 4, but it's so rich it would easily stretch to 6-8 if you used nice glasses. Very yummy:D
Hoping to squeak an extra NSD in today, but may need to be imaginative about dinner!
Have a canny day everyone:)

Morning all! DH and the boys all off to work and school on time, and I'm enjoying having the house to myself for the first time in over a fortnight! Have put a load of washing in the machine, read meters and submitted meter readings, and shopping list all ready to go with some money off vouchers.
After the supermarket and filling up the car, I need to hoover upstairs, clean the bathrooms and apply for a savings account.0 -
Good Morning everyone, grey and chilly here again today but not wet, so could be worse. I'm going into town on the bus this morning to pick up a few basics from Alidees which is easier for me to get to than Lidlees as I have no direct bus there. We have made the decision to not eat bread any longer, we've both noticed waistlines bulking up a bit and have decided to try and do something about it but not in a drastic 'going on a diet' way. So we're crossing over to crispbreads and will put the emphasis in food on to lean meat and veg and fruit. Luckily we both like fresh foods and exist for most of the warm weather on home grown salads/veg dishes but I think it's not quite so easy when it's cold. Lots of nice vegetable soups in the pipeline I feel. Supper tonight will be lemon dhal, carrot and potato curry and basmati rice and with a feeling of relief the festivities and festive food will be behind us.
Have yourselves a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning all! Grey here and DS5 still asleep. Today i must bang heads together but not hard as there is missing paperwork someone must find! Nothing to eat in the house as we have run the cupbpards to empty for the house move so have to go to the SM and find food which requires simple cooking....down to minimum equipment...but is still from scratch and healthy so i dont get any wider. Stir fry?
then to get a friend to help with laundry..no machine!...and continue with packing while maintaining cheerful demeanour at all times...that is the tricky bit!
do all have a good day!0 -
Morning all
Set my alarm this morning, as seems to get later getting up, only for 8am so not silly early. First load of towels wash just finished, so getting myself onto my plan, also started the Spider-Man hat last night, and fixed up the USB turntable to the PC and played with the settings, to get it working for the vinyl conversion. Hoping to be able to show DH how to do some of these, as they are his brothers 78's, but he is not really into technology.
DH has just brought me a cuppa, so I cannot complain
Today the caravan and car will be emptied, and I will then have to find a home for everything again. The caravan fixed double bed needs stripping and the towels bringing in for washing. We will then remake avery thing, and stock up as needed, so it is ready for us in April. Not sure if we will get away in it for Easter, as it is close to our return. DS&DDIL brought us tickets for the Carol King Story in London on the 28th March so that will be our return weekend. Better get my Tesco points sorted and get booking our Eurotunnel crossing.
Still loads of food to use up, but need some fresh F&V, so may brave Aldi on my way back from the hospididdle.
That's enough of my waffle, (((hugs)))), spoons and positive vibes all round. Take care everyone. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Morning all; so glad to get back to a bit of normality!
Mind you, I'm waiting for the breakdown man to come and take my car to be fixed as the handbrake seems to have seized up. There's another car parked in front of it at the moment so might have to knock on a few doors to get that moved.
Dinner tonight will be chilli and jacket potatoes. I've a shopping list ready for some bits at the shops and might try A**i first to get some of their special offer salad stuff.
Have a good day everyone.0 -
Morning, another grey one. The alarm going off at 8am did me no favours, still its back to normal routine time, we get a lie in at the weekend.
I tried for a balance tranfer card in November and got knocked back, I think it was because of the high limit on the card I wanted to transfer, our 2 moves in 6 months knocked me for 6. Yesterday I got OH to phone them and reduce the amount available to £1000, so hopefully if I have to try and apply for another balance transfer when this one runs out it will be ok. However I am hoping to clear the card by the summer anyway. Fingers crossed.
We have to visit the charity shop this morning, several bags of stuff to go in, we have started downsizing. We also need to go to the council and put in the forms for sheltered housing.
No Monday clean, it was done last Wednesday so it can wait till next week. No laundry either it can wait till later in the week.
No more news from niece so can only assume that they are still 'on alert' at home, news on TV this morning is that there is a bit of a break in the weather.0 -
Morning all,
Belated Happy New Year to you all. :T
I was pretty miserable yesterday. DS had gone back to Cumbria, OH had gone back to his place, so there was just me and the cat. The house felt so huge and empty. Then heard a friends dad had passed away, so that did it. Went to bed at 6pm and stayed there till 9 this morning. Feel better today. :A
My cleaner is back today, so I will be able to chat to her. Lovely lady. Must get a haircut too, I look like Worsel Gummidge:rotfl:
Hope you all had a good Christmas and New Year.
Not sure what to have for dinner tonight, must look in the freezer!
Have a good day. xI Believe in saving money!!!:T
