www.ugg.ind.in and www.realypay.com beware!!!!1

I've bought items (UGGS) from outside the EU before and my wife wanted some new UGG boots, so I bought them from www.ugg.ind.in with a total cost of just over £112 including P&P (said free P&P on the site). When I paid, it said I had paid through www.realypay.com who I had not heard of before.

Anyway I emailed ugg.ind about the P&P charged but didn't get any response, I waited almost 3 weeks with no items delivered.
I was worried that I had been taken for so I checked my emails back to the date bought and I had received 2 emails off realypay with a signup link to support as a go between.
I checked out the support to find out that I was refunded 3 days after purchase.
I also checked my bank account but I found that I was debited £121 with an overseas transaction fee of a £1 and only refunded £113 three days later.

I asked realypay to ask ugg.ind why I was refunded. Why I was charged more than the price originally and why I was refunded less than what they had taken off me.

The responses were items weren’t in stock and exchange rate difference. I have checked my bank statement and it does say they refunded the same amount back but the rate was different.

I've never encountered this before and just wondered if this has happened to anyone else who has bought outside the UK and been charged more than what was said or that this kind of practice of not sending items out and being refunded leaving the customer out of pocket (however small amount it may seem) due to rate exchange which wasn't mentioned during the buying process.
Who actually benefits from such ways when money is taken but not all is given back because exchange rate?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but realypay is a scam site, along with the fake ugg site. Both are registered in China. The chances of you receiving some cheap knock-off "ugg" boots are probably 50-50. The chances of you receiving some genuine Ugg Australia boots are zero.

The problem here is, as you paid through a 3rd party (even though they are a scam site) you have little chance of getting your money back.

Remember: If it looks too good to be true...it usually is...
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

  • Also, UK law doesn't apply so you wouldn't get any kind of judgement or legal action enforced in reality.

Also, if the exchange rate changes, do you expect them to give you more of their currency than they received, leaving them out of pocket?

Why not? You pay x pounds, you should get x pounds back. A risk of selling overseas. Exchange rates can go up as well as down.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

This is standard practice. The banks charge the rate on the day - they ARE refunding you what you paid - because they charged you in a different currency at the time of purchase. You were refunded the amount you were charged, it was the local conversion that occurred in a negative way towards you.

If it was me...given the sites you ordered from...I would just be grateful for any of your money back...

They didn't pay pounds though - I would imagine they paid in $.

They didn't pay x pounds, they presumably paid x dollars.
As others have said OP - at least you got your money back. I'd not advise buying anything from random overseas websites unless you know they are tried & trusted.

Getting back less than you paid is always a risk when buying from abroad, whether the company is legitimate or not. You were really lucky to be refunded. With all the publicity surrounding fake Uggs, i'm surprised anyone buys them online anymore.

Even if the exchange rate does not change, you will not get back all the pounds you started with.

Most, if not all, currency exchangers have different 'buy' and 'sell' rates.

Hi I have just been scammed by Realypay for £151.00! You don't know this site will appear until AFTER you've paid. It seems to be the Chinese replica sites which use them. Luckily I have paid with a credit card so I should receive my full money back, something I always do if I'm not quite sure!
