Tesco Finest Bathrooms...any feedback?

We're having a revamp of our 20 year old ensuite and are getting quotes. We had the Tescos Finest Bathroom designer come and chat and measure up last week. He did us a very competent CAD design including sanitary wear, taps etc choices that we made from a range on his computer, and at the end of the session handed us a very comprehensive quote - together with CAD floorplan and elevations. The quote itself included some minor building work (ie the removing and repositioning of a partition wall - and making good, and the renewing of floorboards) + all other ancillary items (ie lighting, tiling, flooring, underfloor heating), and taking away old suite and fitting all the above. I was quite impressed. Also there was no 'hard sell' - so far that is! The price appeared to reflect the work involved and compared well to a previous bathroom refit we had via Ripples (that was pricey - but their products are in the expensive range!). The quote, although comprehensive (listing everything) gave no individual prices - only the final total price. So it's hard to know if the costs are in the product or the installation.
So my questions are:
Does anyone have any experience of Tesco Finest Bathrooms? What are their products like - cheap and flimsy or good solid stuff? Has anyone had experience of their installations and fitters? Are they skilled and reliable, or.........?

You're probably better off posting this on the DIY or quotes board.'The More I know about people the Better I like my Dog'

Hi...we are in the process of having a new bathroom fitted by Tesco Finest Bathrooms. We experienced the same as you with the designer who visited us and decided to go with them as their price was really good and the lifetime guarentee was a major selling point too.
It has been a major disaster from start to finish! It would take me pages and pages to discribe all the problems and we are still in the thick of it, obviously the choice is yours but please be sure that the fitter is reputable, ask for references for him before they start because they use normal builders and just contract the work out to them. The mess he left our bathroom in is indescribable! and they are now in the process of putting it right, at no extra cost to us of course!...in fact we are holding the final payment and I don't think we will be paying them it at all now because of all the trouble we have had.... but as for the fixtures and fittings, they ARE really top quality, the main problems we have had has been with the fitter.
Hope this helps0 -
we had a designer from Tesco finest bathroom visit us. Obviously trained to give you your dream bathroom- all with CAD technology, but not pushy. The only thing we found odd was that prices were not allowed to be seen or discussed!!! After 2 hours we were told that our tiny bathroom would cost £8300 to replace. Tescofinest bathrooms endorse mark two distrubtions balterley bath suites- these can be seen on the web and pictures( same as in Tesco finest brochure) and prices are available.Local bathroom fitter (with refs) quoted £1600 to install the identical suitewhich can be bought on-line for under £300!!!!!0

I have been chasing a brochure and information for a Tesco FINEST Bathroom since I heard about them, this was for my Elderly Parents who are struggling with stepping in and out of their bath.
I have had no response from Tesco and having now read countless bad things about this company I have been put off.
I did some digging and found that the people who are running this company are part of the group that worked for a big name bathroom company who recently went bust due to poor quality bathrooms being installed and customers consently being let down!
Maybe this was also due to money going into a well known designer being used as the face to promote the company !
I ended up finding a family business know as "The Walk In Bathing Company" based in Portsmouth who mainly specialise in producing walk in baths and showers for elderly and disabled people.
After booking an appointment I was wary at first that the products may look very clinical but after seeing what they had to offer and existing installations they have completed, I was given the "Wow factor" at how modern and adaptable they can make your bathroom look for not just eldery and disable but also able body people.
I got a more personal one to one service and when I had some general questions regarding the installation it was a simple pick up the phone and I was straight through to someone no call waiting or being diverted!
They made my parents feel very reassure and comfortable through the whole process, personally I wouldn't go to a big company like Tesco I would go to a smaller company with experience and a good back ground in bathrooms, all I have to finish on is "Tesco's are famous for selling food?????? you wouldn't dream of going to B and Q to get your food for the week !"0 -
You've registered to post two identical messages about Tesco bathrooms, both of which praise another business.

We signed up for a Tesco FINEST bathroom on 30th Jan, had to pay in full 2 weeks before fitting started, fitting started 22 Feb, it is now 5th May and after having the 3 different plumber on site we now have a working shower! For TWO WEEKS we had to flush our toilet with a bucket! The local fitters are rubbish, Tesco are rubbish, marktwo are rubbish. Our project manger might as well be on the moon, the regional installation manager has visited once and has spoken to us 3 times, one of these was when we had water pouring out of the brickwork below the bathroom! Try and find a phone number for Tesco apart from the 0845 number? In the end we have gone through the back door and rang marktwo and persisted until we got to speak to the installations manager who has now looked at our file and admits it doesn't make for good reading - she has a shock coming - she is only looking at her file - she hasn't seen ours yet (with pictures).
Please DO NOT book a Tesco Bathroom - find a local supplier who has been recommended by friends and colleagues.
PS please be aware Marktwo also supply Wickes.0 -
I have just had my bathroom totally redone by Tesco Finest Bathrooms. They did a fantastic job. The builders were brilliant, they arrived at 8am every day and worked solidly through til 6pm. The work is of the highest quality, I definitely got what I paid for. The project manager, Nick, phoned me regularly to make sure things were going well and that I was happy. Everything was delivered as it should be and completed within the agreed time scale. They seem to have got thier act together in my area as I am one very happy customer. Hats off to the contractor and his team, great job. :T0

I just had a quote from Tesco Kitchens. The designer who called was very skilled at his job and quite impressive. As a result I agreed to go ahead. In the paperwork he left there was mention of terms and conditions but none attached. After two days I managed to get a copy and when I looked at the small print, I decided it was not for me. The designer had made quite a point about the lifetime guarantee; which sounded good until you looked at the wording. The lifetime guarantee applies only to the sanitary ware, the installation - more important - was guaranteed for just 12 months. You had to pay the total amount up front. I have never paid any builder of any kind the total amount before the work is finished to my satisfaction. To pay up front is madness. And the small print about what you the customer are responsible for in terms of ensuring that everything is in order for the installation is very detailed and exacting. In the end I was not sure whether the ts and cs had been omitted on purpose or by accident. But I decided that they were not for me so I cancelled and I'll never know whether they would have lived up to their promises. I would say that the cancellation was straightforward and the repayment of my deposit pretty prompt. But the contract.......!0

This sounds terribly spammy.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0 -
funny - newbies with all this to say
Where DO they come from?
I have had a kitchen installed (one local firm) and a bathroom installed (a different local firm)
My advice - ask around - ask colleagues, neighbours and keep asking.
If you go with someone who's work you don't know and for whom you have no recommendations ask if you can go and see people they have worked for.
The bloke who did my kitchen was recommended to me by a colleague for whom he had worked. He doesn't even advertise - he gets all his work through word-of-mouth.
Big companies like Tesco will
a) employ sub-contractors - so quality will vary form town-to-town
b) take a cut themselvesDon't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
