Doubling Electric Direct Debit

Options
My mother's [who's 85] has had an email from her electric supplier saying that they are introducing a new direct debit system of doubling the amount you pay in the winter and then reducing it in the Summer, I can see how that would work for some but pensioners on state pension do not have the luxury of extra disposable income, can they do this?

Yes - they have an obligation to ensure that their customers do not go into debt.

Has your mother received her Winter Fuel Payment - that's what it is for.

PS Does your mother also get the Warm Homes Discount ?
Never pay on an estimated bill

If it's Outfox the Market, then you've missed the thread here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=5924617

Otherwise, they probably can, and she can switch to another supplier if she doesn't like it.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
