What’s freesat boxes? Iv Never heard of those.

It's like Freeview but through the satellite dish rather than an aerial, way more channels available although whether you'd want the channels or not is a personal choice.

    Freeview uses your ariel
Freesat uses a satellite dish, Freesat is similar to Freesat from Sky.

Difference is basically the channel line up is slightly different.

Ah right, sky are sending out bags for me to send their kit back to them so I won’t have a box.

Yes, Sky Q decoders are rental only and do not continue to allow viewing of Free-To-Air channels after cancellation. They must also be returned to Sky, as you've discovered.

If it's a Sky Q box you have then be aware that they have a different LNB on the dish (the bit the wires screw into) so to use a Freesat box (or an old Sky HD box) you'd need to buy and replace it with a HD compatible LNB. Amazon sell them for around £15 or you can get hybrid ones for use on both systems for a little more.

Is sport etc readily available via Freesat?

Realise Sky Sports may be an issue but are there other broadcasters putting out live sport of a similar standard?

No and yes all depends upon what sports you want .
BT Sports and Sky Sports are the main suppliers /
BBC ITV Channel 4 and 5 and FreeSport channel 95 have some but not much .
