So what would people recommend? I've got an entire family of pigeons and their extended cousins staying under my panels.
I'm going to contact some roofers to see if they'll be willing to install those mesh and/or spikes but I'm worried they might damage the panels?

It might be better getting some quotes from local pest control companies who offer a solar panel bird proofing service. They should be using specialist retaining clips to attach the mesh to the panels.

Thanks, I was trying to work out where best to find someone reputable. Typical sites like trustatrader didn't give anything obvious but I think I was looking under roofer...

Is this problem more common than it would appear? We only recently had our solar PV system installed and within a few weeks pigeons were nesting under the panels. I arranged for some galvanized meshing to be installed yesterday to fix the problem. The company who did the install said they were doing a couple of jobs most days so it doesn't seem to be an isolated problem.

    Hi,
may i ask who did you use for this job?

I would be tempted to use a ladder and an Air Rifle.

Don't need the ladder, deckchair in the garden and a nice cup of tea!
I use a cheap bb with plastic bb's to get them out from under the panels, then use the rifle to expunge the vermin!
