Pigeons nesting under my panels

  • Hi. I have Ashadegreener solar panels on my roof. Four years ago shortly after they were installed two pigeons started to nest. Fast forward I now have 40+ nesting under the panels. ASG say they are not legally responsible for pigeon infestation, (pigeons don’t nest on an open roof) pigeons don’t move away, they can live 30+ years , it’s only going to get worse! ASG, will fit pigeon guards for a fee, I was quoted £450+vat + scaffolding +- £1.500 .They are the worst company I have ever dealt with. They were aware I would probably have problems with pigeons as my neighbours had problems several weeks before I requested the guards. . ASG fitted pigeon guards for free. They agreed to fit pigeon guards to THEIR solar panels on my roof but I was informed there was a six month waiting list. (Giving them time to regroup) it took me two and a half years to finally get a reply from ASG. By this time they had decided to profit from not only my predicament with pigeons but many many other customers. This company is making a lot of money with this sideline business! They do however give you the option to fit pigeon guards yourself but you have to inform ASG about how the people installing the pigeon guards will do it and stress that if any damage is caused by the installation, I as landlord will be liable! They have you over a barrel!
Before you can take them to court you have to jump through hoops. Go to citizens advice, they tell you to try to mediate, complain to trade associations. (That’s a total waste of time) you have no protection whatsoever. I’m in the process of writing to government as they are responsible for this whole fiasco. I thought being a government funded scheme ,the govt would be there from start to finish. No! Apparently the government hand over funding to these companies , no vetting or inclusion on how these companies go about their marketing strategies . This whole scheme has been a disaster!
  • Hi, ASG will tell you that if you fit pigeon guards yourself and any damage is done to the panels YOU as landlord will be fully liable! I’m opting for pigeon spikes to be fitted around the panels, don’t want to touch the them or have any contact whatsoever .Ill try and claw back the cost via small claims . This company need exposing. I’ve written to Rip Off Britain maybe everyone else having problems with this company ( lots of people having problems with their boilers also) should do the same. At least write to your MP and local newspapers. I have ,my next step is National newspapers! This company has caused so much stress to their customers! Unless they are exposed they will continue to push the envelope!

We have had panels for 7 years (owned outright) and have never had a problem with pigeons. However, this year they have started nesting under my panels. I am having guards fitted in 3 weeks. No scaffolding required, price is 720 Inc vat.
I can't go clambering on roofs to do myself.
As we are getting the full FIT payments, the cost will be payed out of the next year's tariff I receive.

The neighbours all think I'm nuts anyway, and now that I go out several times a day and crack a old nylon raincoat in their general direction which scares the poo out of them and they fly off ( the pigeons not the neighbours) their suspicions are confirmed regarding my sanity.

The mess and noise that hopefully will improve, Inc eggs and dead chicks on the patio will be money well spent.

The final straw came yesterday when 1 died on the roof and finished half in and half out of the gutter, another pleasant job fishing that out with a stick from the bedroom window.

I sympathise with the people whose panels are rent a roof as the only way this is financially acceptable is that I will get the FIT to cover this
