Good area in London?

Hello

I am looking for an area with nice cafes, shops, restaurants that it's commutable from Canary Wharf.

Can you suggest me please in zone 1-3?
Not too expensive though.

Thanks

Surely these two statements are mutually exclusive?

Not a wonderful area but not too expensive. The nice shops are in the expensive areas.

    To rent or buy?
What would you consider 'too expensive' to be?

There are plenty of places but it's pointless suggesting places without knowing the above.

Will try to reply when you've replied to peachyprice. Pointless otherwise. How would I possibly know what prices fall into your 'Not too expensive'? And what are you looking for? Flat for one? House for family, a dog and rabbit?

Your price is ok if your just after a room, but there is no way your going to find somewhere nice that isn’t too crowded in central london. It’s a very busy city and both the nice and not so nice areas are all busy.
London is really easy to travel around, there are buses, tubes, bicycles and walking that’s are all cheap.
I would suggest you find somewhere that fits your budget and is safe I.e. avoid the areas you might get stabbed and then get a bus/tube when you want to hang out with your espresso and enjoy the views.
Going upmarket has a massive premium attached which isn’t within your budget.

If you really mean a room rather than a flat, then you should find something on the Jubilee line - but your criteria are more Mayfair than Old Kent Road. Most of London is crowded so you should forget that. Something like Stratford is becoming more gentrified. You could get a room near Regent's Park and commute from St Johns Wood / Swiss Cottage for £650pm. Lovely area.

In terms of the area you have described, I'd say Peckham / Peckham Rye or Forrest Hill fit the bill nicely. Lots of great cafes, parks with good views over London and they are quiet(er). Beautiful areas and your budget should be achievable there.

Commuting to Canary Wharf from their is probably best done by bike, but you also have the overground which connects at Canada Water, about 30 minutes total.

Blackheath Village, south of the river, may be above your budget, but you can see Canary Wharf from the cafes and restaurants in Montpelier Vale and Royal Parade...

... So try Deptford which aspires to new "Hipster Edge"

Even Peckham is gentrifying now ...
