I had the first generation card, as flagged up by MSE.

A few months later a second generation card was offered with a year added to the fee free promo ending date.

I called Barclaycard and requested to be switched to the better deal - yes, all I had to do was wait the standard six months before applying for the latter.

That's when the drama started to unfold - nobody at Barclaycard had informed me that the first account had to be closed as part of the six month marking time routine before the second could be opened - and they were not ameanable to reconsider in light of their not having advised me appropriately.

I took this to the Banking Ombudsman - cut to the chase, Barclaycard eventually agreed to culpability and I received the newer card with £70 compensation.

We have since upgraded to the Platinum Cashback Plus.

    Hi.

If i close my barclay card purchase credit card and pay it off which i was intending to do anyway, i have b!en told i can apply for the cashback platonum plus martin lists as the best for currency.

If i pay it off in full and withdraw/spend in levs is this better than travelfxs 2.160 exchange rate. 1520 lev for 703.odd delivered.

I will most likely just be withdrawing currency, so barclaycard or travelfx

You don't need to wait in the meantime. https://www.starlingbank.com/travel/ will net you a just as good or an even better rate. Ditto the Metro Bank debit card which if you have a branch nearby, you can get one within the hour; https://www.metrobankonline.co.uk/bank-accounts/products/current-account/ , https://www.metrobankonline.co.uk/store-locator/
With the Starling or Metro Bank debit card(ATM and purchases); £695.11 for 1520 lev
    Barclaycard Platinum Travel/Cashback £698.77 for 1520
    TravelFx £704.32 for 1520

Metrobank also accept online applications now, and are quite quick in getting the account up and running - allegedly.

Cautionary Alert - it appears the foreign ATM fee free offer etc. for the Platinum Cashback card has been withdrawn very recently - for new applicants ?
