    I always find that steaming frozen veg is better than boiling becase it is less likely to go all soggy.

    Oh can i make up yorkshire puddings and freeze them or would they go soggy.

    Never tried it myself, but you can buy ready made frozen yorkies in the shops, so I guess it's ok.

    Aunt Bessie also does frozen, uncooked yorkies that you do straight from frozen. So I guess you could make the mixture then freeze it.

    Carrots - I don't bother to blanche - just freeze!

    Garlic, chillies and ginger (bought when cheap) I chop finely/mince/grate and open freeze in thinish layers - then into a ziplock bag and you can break off a chunk when you need it (the garlic smell does tend to permeate the whole freezer though!).

    Good luck

    Hope this helps

    Hi all! :wave::wave:

    Looking for some advice re fresh veg! I wondered if it was ok to freeze fresh veg or if I should cook it first and then freeze it? It would be getting used for soup once I had enough. New years resolution is to stop wasting so much (esp veg)!

    Thanks!

    Blanche means quickly into boiling water for about 5 mins max, then plunge into cold water to stop cooking.
    I would blanch- cauli, broccoli, root veg, courgettes, peas, runners.
    Would freeze in slices or chopped- mushrooms, onions, peppers, leeks.
    Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

    Blanching means cooking in boiling water for a short amount of time, often followed by a dip in iced water to halt the cooking process. This has many benifits, mainly kills batceria present in foods thus delaying spoilage.
