Hi, how's it going? I've been with you since April last year and I'm really pleased with how things are going. I can now keep on top of my account with the minimum of effort.

Just a thought - do you have any plans to offer anything unusual/out of the ordinary any time soon? In the early days of this thread the Powershop rep postulated a few interesting ideas but nothing has popped up so far.

By the way - how's new customer sign up going? Are you getting the numbers?

I had previously posted that I thought the way you were portrayed on price comparison websites was disadvantageous to your model and even contacted MSE about it but they wouldn't price the offer at the Pioneers Shopper effective achievable rate because they said (quite accurately it has to be said) that it depended on customers taking additional action - i.e. buying Powerpacks.

It seems to me that you are being placed at a disadvantage when you are measured the way other companies are measured.

Perhaps you should do more to encourage existing customers (who hopefully know how PS works) to be even more proactive in recruiting more customers (if you need more customers that is)

I am aware of the sign up bonus deal you have at present.

I too am quite happy with powershop. 8 months in and my unit rate average is 10.05p. Ranging from 11.49 p first month (when you haven't had time to buy future packs) to an hour incredible low of 7.99p for my November/December bill
I do think powershop needs to somehow get the message across more clearly about the need to buy powerpacks. I understood that from the very beginning but its obvious some people over on other review sites just don't understand it. I love the innovative way of buying electricity. Yes I'm 200 in credit but my monthly costs are 10 to 12 pounds less than the equivalent period last year with a rival supplier and their costs have increased further since then
Keep up the good work powershop
If the powershop rep on this board is watching you could at least say hi now and then.

Can any Powershop customers who were customers early in 2017 let me know what the July 2017 Future Pack discounts were please? I know what the Future Pack discounts were from August 2017 to the current date but I'm trying to find out what the July 2017 Future Pack discount was.

From my experience the cost and value of special packs can change between the date that they are offered and the date that you actually purchase them.
They change depending upon your consumption and the Powershop estimate of your consumption.
The discount appears to remain the same.

Here are the discounts I have obtained so far:
    Date Cost Description Discount "Value"

    24/02/2018 £3.76 Appetiser - Feb 27.97% £5.22
    25/02/2018 12.48 Bye-Bye 25.31% 16.71

The discounts I have taken over the 5 months break down as follows:
    Discount Cost % of Total
    <15% £117.53 19%
    15-20% £103.27 17%
    20%-30% £244.35 40%
    >30% £145.09 24%
    Total = £610.24 100%

NOTE: These percentages are calculated in my spreadsheet and hence differ slightly from the "rounded" figures that Powershop quote!

I was previously with ExtraEnergy and as a result of that "encounter" I now submit a daily read, taken from my OWL energy monitor that I synchronise weekly with my "dumb" meter.

I have been with Powershop since October 2017 and believe that I now understand the best way to get the most discount on my bill.
My Annual consumption was 12,500 kWh, the current estimate is that it will be 9,300 kWh for the period Oct 2017 to Oct 2018.
According to Powershop and verified in my spreadsheet I have saved £200.10 since Oct 2017 and I am currently 12 Weeks & £229 in credit.
I am now going to run this figure down to 6 weeks in advance.

    Does anyone have any questions?

Impressive record keeping I must say. I have a spreadsheet that originated from when I was with a traditional supplier where I paid a set DD each month and ended up either slightly in credit or debit depending on the time of year.

What I'm struggling with is how to adapt my spreadsheet to the Powershop model - specifically finding a way to determine out of everything I've bought, what has been used and what is still in credit. By knowing what I've used I can then of course work out what my effective discounted rate for Std and E7 electricity is. I know how much I've spent (including pre-paid credit) I know what I've consumed but I'm struggling to find an elegant way to separate from all the money I've spent how much has been offset against consumption and how much is sitting in the "credit pot". Any thoughts?

    Hi fewkeste

I have been with powershop for nigh on 9 months now and I'm very impressed

The most heavily discounted Powerpacks purchased are used up first so a 37.2% winter jumbo is used before an appetiser of 28% which in turn is used before a bye bye special of 25.3%. the last used powerpack is likely to be a jumbo as its only discounted by 7%. I have an unused one in credit from June still!!
To see your unused powerpacks go to the app and click 'your tariff' followed by 'show my tariff information'. This takes you to the powershop website

From there click the transactions tab. Finally click powerpacks purchased option

Now you can see a complete history of all powerpacks purchased including date, cost to you and worth of powerpack. Used powerpacks are in grey. Ones in black are either totally or partially unused.

You can also see what powerpacks are being used in this 'current review'

I can see my unused jumbo and a boxing day sale pack alongside my unused August, September, October, November, December, January, and February future powerpacks

They add up to a credit of £204 in my account but if I was to leave and cash these in I'd only get what I paid for them back ie £186. This information is all readily available on this powerpacks purchased list

Hope this is of some use

    Hi fewkeste.

    Greetings from Yorkshire!

Having had a bad time with my previous supplier I decided to track everything when I switched to PS!.

As far as your spreadsheet is concerned I suggest that rather than adapting to accommodate the PS model you start with a "New Sheet"!

I realised that the more frequent the readings I give PS, the more likely that their offers will reflect my actual usage.

I capture the following in my spreadsheet:

    1. Daily Reading - The figure in kWh that I submit as a daily reading* to PS at approx same time each day.

    2. From the "Balance" Tab on my PS account web page:
2.1 PS estimate of the amount in credit (£)
2.2 PS estimate of the "Weeks" in credit
2.3 The Date of the last day shaded in green on the Power Organiser calendar
2.4 The Total Savings (£) shown in the red box
2.5 The number of days to my next review

I also capture the PS estimate of the daily cost and my current usage, but don't use these figures as I can see the same information on my spreadsheet.

    3. I also use the Android App, which provides the following information (which does not seem to be available on my PS Account Web page):
3.1 From the "Balance" Tab I capture the PS Monthly Estimates, in £, of my future cost for the next 12 months (for example, it currently shows that for Jan 2019 their estimate is that it will cost me £113.93).
NOTE These future estimates are recalculated by PS each time I submit a meter reading!

    4. From my monthly bill I capture the following:
4.1 The current PS calculation of my annual consumption (in kWh). It is shown on Page 2 at the bottom of the "About your charges" section.
4.2 The Bill "Total" and the "Cost to You" Totals from page 3
4.3 The "Previous" and "Current" meter readings

From this basic information I can calculate:
    A. Average figures for consumption to date, previous months, current month etc.,
    B. Projections of what my future bills are likely to be for the next 12 months
    C. Track the impact of my energy saving activities.
    D. True Cost per kWh per month (It was £0.0961p for November 2017).
    E. Confirmation that my bills are correct.
    F. The ability to decide which Powerpacks to buy and which to ignore to meet future consumption needs.

Overall, enough to keep me occupied and confident that PS is the cheapest deal for me and my high consumption.

    * NOTE I use an OWL power monitor to get my meter readings at my desk, rather than having to actually go and read the meter.
You can buy them used for £10 on ebygumbay!

    Hengus,
A big "Thank You" for everything that you have contributed to this thread.

As I mentioned, I have been with PS for only 5 months and only found this thread 2 days ago.

It is obvious that you and a couple of others ( You know who you are....) have contributed significant feedback points that prospective PS customers can only find by working through the 18 pages of posts!

How about a new Thread to provide a summary of the key points?

I'd like to propose them here and when we reach a consensus that new thread is published...

OK, so here is my six penn'orth/"Starter for 10":

Key considerations for getting the best from Powershop as a UK Electricity Supplier

    1. Can you afford to be constantly at least 2 months in credit?
The way that the PS deal works you have to be constantly in credit.

    2. Are you willing to take the effort to submit regular (Daily or weekly) Meter Readings?

Unless you have a smart meter, you need to be prepared to take the time to submit regular meter readings.

    3. The savings will improve as PS "learn" your actual consumption pattern.
Upon joining the discounts offered to you are small, but they increase and improve provided you submit those readings.

    4. There is a learning curve to being a customer.

At first you feel you have to buy every Powerpack you are offered, however, once you are "up and running" (2 to 3 months when you have built up your credit balance), you will then be able to make "reasoned" decisions purchasing Power Packs.

    5. Errr....... So what's your guidance to add to the 4 above?

    Answers please!

Sorry but life's too short to be doing all this spreadsheet business. I'm paid up until about 4 weeks short of my 1st anniversary on 7 October. Taking that into account, I will have paid about £150 less on the anniversary than I would have done had I not changed. Actually it is probably more than that as the old supplier was putting its prices up for this year. That's all I need to know and no degree in maths required!

I know what you mean but I like to know exactly what it's cost me so that when I do an energy comparison on a website I can judge if the alternative suppliers offers are better or worse than what I can achieve with Powershop. Because of the way Powershop works I don't find it easy to accurately calculate how much I've spent for a given time period and associated consumption. To make informed decisions you need to know what your current costs are - not that easy on Powershop.
