I did buy it now.. But that means part of my appetiser, and the whole of rudolph special pack haven't been used for this months bill. I think the way it works is the highest discount packs are used first as I have a jumbo from my first month purchased on June 16th (a mere 7%) still unused. I won't be buying future packs for some time now as my credit is worth 6 months electricity so these unused special packs will get used eventually.

The powershop rep on here seems to have gone awol. Not seem a post from them in some time

Just completed my 6th month with powershop and what can I say. It's working for me and saving me money

My latest bill reads as such
    36 days power
328 kWh used at 9.1 kWh per day
    Total cost £32.19 Inc scharge
    Scharge = 36 x 16.6p = £5.97
    Usage cost = £26.22

I've saved £18.07 off standard power
    % saving of 35.95%

And a unit cost of 7.99p per kwh

That's an incredibly low unit cost

I'm paid up until July 4th!!

I admit this won't suit everyone but now I needn't pay any electricity for 6 months if I don't want to while the discounts are few and far between

I was paying 11.18p per unit on November 2012!!

I left Powershop 5 weeks ago only because a family member came up with a switching plan that netted £400 in referral fees for 3 bill payers. During my 6 months with them, Powershop's management of my transfer and billing has been first-class. Having now got a Final Bill out of them, I was somewhat surprised to see that they have failed to pay a £25 referral fee that was previously credited to my online account. I am hoping that this is a mistake as I have already Gift Aided the money to a Childrens' Hospital Heart Charity believing that it would be paid as promised. I have raised the missing £25 with Powershop and I await their reply.

Will I return? If their offer remains competitive, then on the basis of their management of my account then the answer would be 'Yes'.

    Update:

As I didn’t get any response to my e-mail, I called Powershop to discuss the missing £25 credit. Even though the credit had been added to my account in November (confirmed in an online Account Review in Dec), the credit had mysteriously disappeared from my Final Bill. I won’t replay the whole exchange but suffice to say that Powershop was unable to offer an acceptable explanation for the missing credit. The Final Bill does, however, state:

As you no longer have any active properties on this Powershop account, we will refund the credit amount (less any promotional grants or credits)

Nowhere in the customer referral offer does it state that the credit is only paid if the customer making the referral remains a Powershop customer for a given amount of time. There are no offer conditions.

My advice, FWIW, is that when people leave Powershop it is worth going through all the credit payments and charges made to check the final amount.

Referral fee is only awarded as a credit to your account.

It states in terms and conditions - the referral fee is paid by way of a credit to your account only. There is no cash alternative available

Therefore I would assume the 25 pound credit is only available to use on purchasing electricity ie you cannot withdraw it if you terminate your contract

Much in the same way free bets when you open an online account with a bookie cannot be withdrawn only used to purchase bets

That's how I understand powershops terms and conditions anyway

There are no terms and conditions attached to offer other than the referral fee is paid when the new customer transfer is complete. Powershop actioned this immediately. If your explanation was true then all monies paid to buy such things as Future Packs would also be lost as these are immediately cancelled - and I assume turned back into cash - when an application to switch; ie, prior to the actual transfer taking place - is received. It is somewhat disconcerting to see £200+ of credit disappear from one's online account.

There is also no explanation on the Final Bill, as far as I can see, as to how the credit balance has been calculated. All that is provided is the standard account review up to the date of transfer which is followed by a short e-mail saying that we are crediting £xxx to your account with no calculations to underpin how this figure has been calculated.

I found terms and conditions here

    https://www.powershop.co.uk/refer-your-friends/

    That's where I quoted from

Those terms and conditions only apply to refer a friend so powerpacks aren't included in them

Not thinking of going anywhere else yet but I would have expected a better breakdown of how my credit was worked out than you appear to get on termination

I'll keep a close eye on my figures and check them if I ever leave

Thinking about it again, it might have been wise just to have bought some more packs with the credit but as I was already paid up until August, it made no sense to do so. That said, there is no logic to this given that when a customer leaves all unused powerpacks are being re-credited to the account.

This is what I received from Powershop last week:

On Friday 5 January 2018 we completed the final billing of your property at xxxxxx.

As a result, your Powershop account now has a credit balance of £xxx

As you no longer have any active properties on this Powershop account, we will refund the credit amount (less any promotional grants or credits) directly to your nominated bank account. Want to check we have the correct bank details? Log in to your Powershop account or contact us on 0800 009 3719.

I would advise people to keep copies of all their online account reviews and payments made. I would have thought that it would be pretty simple to add something to the last account review showing the re-converted power packs and the cash balance. It is something that Powershop should consider.

    Thanks for the advice hengus

Fortunately I have kept every receipt from powershop as that is a somewhat brief explanation of how your refund has been worked out

I'm not thinking of leaving yet but if I do I shall work out what I'm owed before notifying powershop. It should be quite simple to add up all unused powerpacks (the price I paid not their value in electricity which would obviously be a lot more)

Im really happy with powershop but I'm coming to realise that the billing system and how you go about getting the best value out of your money doesn't suit everyone. Over on trust pilot there are some shocking reviews which I can only assume are from people who just don't understand how powershop works (unless of course they are false reviews)

Myself im paying far less than I have done for many a year. I only buy powerpacks with discounts in excess of 20 per cent. Even though current future packs aren't great value (so I don't buy them) I have enough credit to see me through until August now. And when a winter jumbo with 37.2 discount comes out as it did earlier this week I just have to buy it.

Surely this is the reason isn't it?

I don’t agree and Powershop has now agreed to pay the amount due. I will update when it comes through. I prefer to think that this is more of a glitch than a deliberate policy.
