Staff interaction in my experience has been poor...

One removed a post where i was polite and said no they cannot do that, it would be fraud. The person that replied after me was far more abrupt and quite nasty about it. I asked if they removed the wrong post and rather than admit they were wrong they said i could report that post i i wished to. And then threatened to PPR me.

Recently i asked a question having dealt with 2 companies and asked if anyone had received any dodgy calls after dealing with either of them and it appears to have been edited. Not by me.

And oh my god the SPAM... Before they think of anything they need to address that. I had reported a lot of spam before, but now i dont bother and i spend far less time on here than i used to because of it.

Whats the point in clicking the spam button if the system still allows them to create 20+ spam posts??

If a new user is marked as spam even once their post should be hidden instantly and viewed before being allowed back. If a user marks non spam posts then that option should be removed from them.

And dont let new accounts mark posts as spam.. Pre-empt that for them.

From the comments im wondering how long it is before the adverts start.

haven't done the survey but in answer to the question how to shape the future please could you consider

    1) Stopping the auto deletion of our long running threads on the OS boards as this is happening with increasing regularity OR find a way to restore them as they usually have useful content such as recipes etc. and it's gone forever according to infrequent replies given when the when the question 'why' is asked.

    2) If these deletions are due to excessive 'SPAM' reports find out who is reporting posts as 'SPAM when they aren't and if it's a deliberate action by a single website perhaps give them their marching orders.

    3) Please give us 'real' answers when we have queries, 'We can't do anything about it' without the explanation of why is most annoying.

Having said all that I am appreciative of the fact that all of you board guides do this for free and aren't on line 24/24 and are subject to rules and regulations and legal issues that we aren't necessarily aware of so thanks for ALL your hard work which keeps these OS Boards running for us to support and help each other and generally make life nicer all round, and also make us all smile on sad and sorry days.

I do hope nobody has taken this as a criticism of board guides.

This is about the MSEWhovever people (I'm assuming employees) who start threads (or surveys) then disappear with no feedback.

Certainly NOT meant as criticism in any way and is meant to just say thanks for the work the guides do which enables all of us to keep using the threads. I think the guides deserve big thanks NOT criticism! perhaps I should have worded it differently and said that the guides work in an unpaid and voluntary capacity giving up their own free time to let us have these boards to use to chat to each other, definitely not meant in a critical way and I apologise if it comes over that way.

Sorry but I didn't mean to criticise your post.

What I meant is that I agree with your comment about the board guides and hope they don't think the criticism in this thread is about them.

It's about the mse employed people who start threads just like this one and then disappear!

Thank you very much for your feedback everyone. We're reading through it and are taking note.

We want all feedback, whatever form it takes (as long as it's polite of course :) ).

And yes, Board Guides are our fabulous volunteers, helping us keep the Forum running smoothly but they don't see or deal with reports about Forum posts.

    Thank you again!

    Andrea :)

So, are you planning to do anything about your silly apostrophe problem?

Not bothered about staff engagement as this place is free so we can't expect that. But, survey's like this suggest the owners of Money Saving Expert are looking at cost cutting and the forum would be a place to cut costs. Future Publishing did this with the PC Format forum. Moved it to another setup because they couldn't be bother to manage its old setup which worked fine, then it died. No one posted anymore, the new forum was totally broken and then in 2015 the magazine died as well.

Money Saving site won't go but I fear this is the beginning of the end of the forum. This is just them pretending they actually care what their users think.

    Where does one start?

Spam, the spam is getting worse, there seems to be no system at all other then relying on members hitting the spam button to stop it. Its not working, money needs to be spent

The banning of members for extremely minor offences. You have lost so many qualified helpful people who gave their time and expertise for free because all someone had to do was report a post that may not have been what they wanted to hear, and bang, yellow card, bang another and bang a ban

Allowing people to have more then one account, this causes untold problems with disruptive malicious posters disrupting the boards and reporting willy nilly

These things stop people posting. I myself barely post now just in case someone takes offence and I get yet another ban, one I won't get back from

Gagging your users isn't working for the forum. Footfall is definitely down. Yes I know DT and the Arms aren't your priority, but it was a place to hang out and have a bit of banter or robust discussion between doing the helpful bit on other boards, they are both dying a slow death

Some of your board guides need to be retrained. You have one who is so rude and scathing to posters that if they weren't a board guide they would have been banned years ago. You have others who delete posts willy nilly, posts that have nothing rude or against the rules in them whatsoever. We have threads pulled for the same reasons - the board guides don't like them so they go

Or do you really have a moderating team reading 24/7 that are quick on the ball for that, yet leave the most obscene reported posts sitting for hours?

There is no constancy across the boards whatsoever

    Appallingly designed survey. Gave up

Sorting out moderation, and yes it is a moderated site, calling the moderators board guides doesn't mean they're not moderators, should be a priority

    This.

The survey doesn't really apply to me, much. I use the forum because there are a lot of topics under one roof and I can dip in and out of boards. For specialist advice I use specialist forums.

The forum definitely suffers from the amount of disruption caused by spammers and trolls and the, seemingly, inconsistent moderation. And I agree with w06, the forum is moderated (by MSE staff) whatever anyone says.

I don't really see much point of a (poorly designed) survey when you have a Site Feedback board where people have been raising these sort of issues for a while.

Sort out how the forum is managed and the rest will flow.
