Cheque - Incorrect Payee Name

Good Evening
I received a cheque today, however they spelt my name wrong on the cheque. They used two L’s instead of one.
I used the machine to pay it in.
Will it get rejected or will it get processed?
TIA

As long as the numbers are right there should be no issue.

My own surname is one that easily gets misspelled and I have no problems
Never pay on an estimated bill

Good probability it will go through. I received a cheque which was signed by the wrong person and that went through OK. If it's not for a large sum, it's likely to receive minimal checking.

  • Thanks.. it must happen lots of times with misspelt surnames.
    Fingers crossed
  • How much is the cheque for?
Could you not pay it in with a human cashier?

How many spellings of 9 can there be!
  • About £750.. the queue was very long I didn’t even realise the name was spelt wrong until I went to put it in the machine.
    The difference was that minimal

Much more likely to be spotted by a cashier.

  • So if it passes the cashier, it will clear?
    Darn should have done that
  • Try it and find out.

We get this quite frequently at work with our company name being spelt wrong on cheques. From experience if paying in over the counter these errors are nearly always picked up by the cashier and rejected, however if paying in via a machine or via a Post Office counter the errors are almost never picked up. So, guess where we pay our misspelt cheques in..
