i had something similar, and asked them to reissue it

    but,

i had taken a photo that someone wanted to use (rare), and i made an invoice and cited "stock photography" in the "whats this for" area etc, and attached emails of the proposal - so they wrote it to "my name's stock photography" - as if it was a trading name, would this have been ok??

in any event i got them to just use my name and name only.

So if it passes the cashier, it will clear?
    Darn should have done that

No, steer clear of the cashier, they'd be more likely to reject than the computer!

    Rubbish!
You can explain to a human - a computer will say no.

Are these cheque scanning pay-in machines sophisticated enough to check for details like payee name spelling?

My experience suggests otherwise. I've had cheques rejected at the counter which we subsequently paid in via a machine with no issues!

    Its a funny old world.

The banks say that in the near future they will start validating the Payee Name - as a means of reducing fraud.

Yet this morning I had LBG on the 'phone - yet again - saying that, rather than fixing their carp IT system could I invent and use different spellings of my name.

    Funny old world.

Odds of encountering a pedantic jobsworth cashier, versus the cheque imaging machine not picking up a misspelled name...? I know which option I'd use if it was my cheque and I didn't have time to get it reissued.

Had a similar problem once, cashier refused to cash it, so I went to the machine and it was processed fine:beer:
  • My wife received a cheque from an elderly relation in her maiden name. Cashier couldn’t care less and cheque cleared no problem.
