If you could cancel Christmas, would you?
Christmas is nearly here. For some it conjures a picture of family, fun and festive frivolity; for others it means stress, present pressure, debt and chores.
So if you had a CANCEL CHRISTMAS button that'd make the whole thing disappear (and just add days to your holiday entitlement), would you press it?

I’m really shocked at the current poll answers, I bet it’s because all the people who love Christmas are busy shopping or if they can’t afford that making homemade gifts and thinking about the people they care about xx I don’t spend more than I can afford but I still love everything about Christmas. Nativity play, carol singing, church services & everyone making time for friends and family x Don’t get dragged into the commercialism and see there is lots to enjoy throughout the whole of December xx What a load of bah humbugs! Merry Christmas to one & all xxx0

There are many more attitudes to Christmas than just these two!!!!!0 -
I'd appreciate Christmas more if it was every 4 years like a leap year!0

Shocked but not surprised.Debt 1/1/17 - Credit Cards £17,280.23; overdrafts £3,777.24
Debt 5/1/18 - Credit Cards £3,188; overdrafts £00 -
I had to put myself down as single but I am a widow with grown up children.
I am really looking forward to Christmas as all my dds, my son in law and two of dd's boyfriends will be staying over at some point. I did most of my shopping online as I don't want to battle the crowds and long queues.
I downsized when I lost DH but still have spare bedrooms so family can stay over. The conservatory has a big dining table in it and a couple of portable heaters make it quite cosy.
Everything will be flexible - there will be food and beds made up and everyone can do whatever suits them. DDs will help with cooking and we will play some board games, watch some tv if they fancy and have some catch up conversation and just relax and enjoy each other's company."This site is addictive!"

I pushed the button some 38 years ago and I have never regretted it.
The hard part is always convincing people that I have nothing at all to do with the event in any way shape or form.0 -
Our daughter says she hates Christmas.
Said I might not put decorations up this year
Her response "why not you always do"
I said we might not have turkey
" oh you have to I love Christmas dinner"
and
"When are we going to choose the tree?"
Oh yes, she hates Christmas.

Totally agree. Christmas is not about commercialism; it has been hijacked. No Christian would/could cancel Christmas. You do not need to empty the bank account to celebrate the birth of Christ and share the occasion with close family and friends.
A quick look online and I cannot find any vote or discussion to cancel any other religion's festivals... but I guess Christians have been persecuted since the time of Christ. Even more reason to keep Christmas... not in the shops but in our hearts!0 -
Don't cancel the event, just stop the nonsense and over-spending.
It's GREAT that everybody has a shared focus - and most/many will know they have XYZ days off, all at the same time, so people can get together without having to wonder if they can book time off work.
It's great that there's something to talk about that everybody shares and can participate in ... unlike most conversations where people are struggling to find anything in common to talk about.0 -
I just wish they would cancel Xmas until December.0
