My daughter was injured while stationary in her vehicle when a car at speed went into the back of her, finally after years of backwards and forwards e-mails and letters they now say she cannot claim due to a visit to her doctor many years ago for another incident that happened, after the first accident which was not her fault the case was finished and she has had no problems till this latest accident, this was a new injury caused by a speeding vehicle out of control, how do we stand about this or who can I best contact to take furter please

I am leaving Direct Line in the next couple of weeks, for all my insurance products- solely because of how poor DLG legal services are. I look forward to telling them the reason I am leaving!

I ended up going back to Direct Line for Home Insurance in November 2018 as I couldn't afford the premiums anyone else was charging. I dreaded having to use their legal services and lo and behold, this is the year I should need to consult them.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn upon phoning their helpline, that they have switched to Stephenson's Solicitors. They were excellent over the phone and I have high hopes that they are able to assist me.

I thought this info might be useful to anyone else considering them or still with them for legal expenses cover. I had previously asked every insurer who provided their legal cover, before agreeing to go with them!

DLG Legal Services are a truly terrible company. They will lie and deceive to further their ends. They are slow and incompetent. They do not abide by the SRA's Priciples. They do not operate in an ethical manner.
    Would not recommend.

I would also not recommend.  Useless company.  Direct Line home insurance are still using them (2021) .  When you complain about the quality of their legal work ("advice") you get nowhere since what you get is
"I am not a specialist in the area of law that concerns your claim and I am therefore unable to comment further on the legal merits of your claim"
Or indeed any legal aspects because DLG complaints process is staffed only by non-legally qualified people.  Even taking the complaints process to next level still just gets a non-legally qualified person who says they cannot assess your complaint.
This is clearly in breach of SRA code a practice, 8.2
"You ensure that, as appropriate in the circumstances, you either establish and maintain, or participate in, a procedure for handling complaints in relation to the legal services you provide."
    and 8.5
"You ensure that complaints are dealt with promptly, fairly, and free of charge"
My experience of DLG Legal Services is some claims handler, not legally qualified, writes tosh in a letter using phrases like as "Legal Opinion", "I have reviewed...", "Company X have not breached...", "On the basis of my advice" which give the impression it is written by a solicitor when in fact it isn't.  This "passing off" (IMO) is allowed by the SRA as long as someone in the firm is a solicitor as they are deemed to have approved the tosh.
And of course since DLG Legal Services complaints procedure has no solicitors then in effect there is just one solicitor making decisions with no QA checking this.  And, to make matters worse, the Legal Ombudsman service says they have no competence to assess the quality of legal work.  I'm not making this up.  That is what they have said.  LeO say they are staffed by non-legally qualified people and therefore cannot assess legal work.  And yes, my opinion is also !!!!!! is the point of the LEGAL Ombudsman if it cannot assess legal work!
It is no wonder that cowboy legal firms exist.  The LeO is not fit for purpose.  The truth is that there is NO system to check the quality of legal work.
