There is no way I would be giving a random company all that information. It would make identity theft a real possibility.

If you are entitled to a refund you may well be able to do it yourself like a ppi claim.

Yes can you answer my question.
Yes there is a claims management company by that name, but how did they approach you, ie is this the same company

So I’m guessing you are Thames water.
A company of that name is a claims management company.
It’s not unheard of for people to be contacted by scammers pretending to be the same company.
The mse answer would be to contact the water company/ housing association and do it yourself. They won’t sell on your details and already have your info

They are the same style of company that offered to get you holiday compensation for illnesses you haven’t had

i am 75 years old. i first rented privately back when i was 26yrs old and newly married. at that time we had to pay our water rates to our local water authority. my daughter has spent the last 15years or so privately renting and she too had to pay her water rates seperately from her rent, (to the water authority here in Yorkshire). HOWEVER. i started renting from our local council back in 1982... when my water rates were included with my rent.in 1987 i moved to private rent again twice and on both occasions had to pay water rates seperately. nothing to do with the house agent who dealt with the rent payments. then i moved to Bedford...... council property which shortly after i moved in was taken over by the housing association which had been formed by the council... on both counts my water rates were in with my rent.as they were yet again when i moved back to yorkshire in 1997. so i am sorry to those who think we council/housing association tenants dont pay water rates to the council or offshoots (most councils offloaded their housing stock back in late 1990's/early 2000's to a housing association they formed, they liaised with the new HA for the first year after which the HA ran the new firm on their own. we still had to pay for water with the rent. and i did up to august last year when i was finally allowed to have a water meter installed so i now pay direct to yorkshire water... sorry to those who were convinced that no council paid the water rates in with the council rent......... my parents rented council houses from 1957 through my mothers death in 1977, dads 2nd marriage, in 1979 his death in 1999 and my step mothers in 2005, in most of that time they too paid their water rates in with their rent.i say most because i dont know when it was brought in i just remember both my mum and my step mum both saying part of their rent included water rates

I'm not sure why you've felt the need to drag up a 4 month old thread to have a rant when all that was said was

You generally don't pay water bills to the council, you pay a water company.

It has all the hallmarks of a scam.

Which is correct, apart from in Scotland where water is still included on the council tax bill. What used to happen before water privatisation in England (which happened in 1989, before the introduction of CT) is of no relevance to the question raised in the OP.

    Hi

The company has asked us to post a response on its behalf and we have agreed to give it a right of reply. MSE does not endorse anything a company says on the Forum.
The critical question that is asked is a fair one: is WaterClaimsUK genuine or is it a scam?

The answer is that it is genuine, but we appreciate that it is not realistic to expect people to take our word for it. Here is some further information which will enable Forum members to make their own minds up:

    Background

The claim we are leading concerns social housing tenants who paid more for their water and sewage than they should have. This is either because:

they paid service charges to their landlords (councils and housing associations) who then deducted unlawful commissions before paying the money on to the water company or
they paid the water company directly even though their landlords were legally responsible for the water bills.

There are potentially millions of people who are affected by this. At present, we are recruiting for claimants all over the country and corresponding with over 750 councils and housing associations to gather evidence of their arrangements ahead of issuing a group claim. For more about the current progress of the claim, see the newsletter page of our website.

    Identity Verification

We understand the scepticism of people who are reluctant to provide us with photo identification and proof of address. We have a duty to verify claimants’ identities before they are referred to the group’s solicitors. This is an obligation that all solicitors’ firms have (see this thread on MoneySaving Expert for more details) and we have now implemented an electronic process for doing this which means people no longer need to give us their details.

    Who we contact

The only people we write to are people who have responded to one of our adverts. We have not purchased any mailing or telephone lists so cannot and do not cold call anyone. We do occasionally get well-meaning people who register a claim in the name of a friend or relative but we can only take a claim on behalf of people who are named on the tenancy agreement.

    Cost

Almost 50,000 people have registered with us and none of them have paid a single penny to do so. This is a no win no fee arrangement, so there will be no fees unless we recover compensation on their behalf.

    Is this like PPI?

We would stress that this is not like PPI where people can get in touch with their landlord or water company about their individual claim. Banks accept their responsibility for PPI but councils and housing associations are refusing to offer any meaningful compensation. It will take a large legal claim, involving thousands of tenants and hundreds of landlords, to persuade those responsible to pay the compensation that is due. One of our key messages to potential claimants is not to accept what your landlord offers you as the law entitles you to more.

    Who is behind WaterClaimsUK?

WaterClaimsUK is a trading style of Litigation Management Limited (LML). Those who would like to research more about us will discover that we are a small company specialising in organising and managing consumer claims. Our website is http://litigationmanagement.co.uk . LML is a regulated claims management company. Our registration (CRM42222) is recorded on http://www.gov.uk/moj/cmr

I hope this information is helpful to the Forum.

You can't be "illegible" to get money back. You may be "eligible". I'm not making fun - but to get the most help from these forums you need to try to make the most sense you can.

As others have said, you don't pay the council for water charges - you pay the water supplier.
I think you pay the council in Scotland for water charges as that's included in their council tax.

@MSE Andrea is not the fact about been realistic of not, i notice people have already complain that have not hear from them since last year, after giving all your details after giving every address you ever lived afetr sending your passport and after sending them all your past tenancy agreement!! Is it a facebook page with only 5000 like, and a website that anyone can open! i cannot find any comment to say that it worked. until someone tell me that has worked i don't believe is real, and if it was it would have more them 10.000 like in one year, so sorry but i am dubious!
