When is your baby due? I think most people are still nervous about job security at the moment. Its tempting to throw every thing at the mortgage, but we both work for the same company, and we decided to save and pay off in one large payment, and by then our emergency fund will also be in place (hopefully!).
Then we will dive right back in when we buy our hopefully forever home!

    morning everyone!

made my first over payment of the month, £11.86 which was odd amount from our bill account.

Ive had a naughty pig out out long weekend as me and hubby booked a couple of holiday days off , for my birthday. he had to go to work today as he was booked on a training course, im back tomorrow .

Going to have relaxing day, may have a long soak with lush bath bomb (birthday gift), read my book ! then long walk with my little doggy (naughty cocker spaniel).

Tomorrow, back to concentrating on money saving , and at least 5 days sensible low calorie days!

    Baby due in January :j

I agree. It's still tough out there and I can't see it hitting the heady heights of pre recession for a long time if ever. With little one coming I have to reduce the risk a bit.

    Hi Lilyp.

My "babies" are 20 and 23 now, when they were babies and probably up to the youngest being 11/12 i just couldnt have afforded to overpay/save,as i was in a relatively low paid job, without any support from their father, i just concentrated on paying bills and dreaming of owning my own house one day!

I only bought this house 9 years ago, and since then ive tried to make small overpayments when i can. Its only since my youngest started a full time job and then they were both financially independant that ive really got stuck in to clearing my mortgage in earnest. And a couple of years ago i met my now lovely husband, who thankfully is totally on the same page financially, he is happy to let me organise all the finances, and wants the same things, i.e rural living/pay off this mortgage to allow us to use the sale proceeds as deposit on our forever home.

You are doing really well to have started on your journey early, things may not be as easy with a young one to look after, but in my experience, if you are focused, determined , and have a budget plan for spending and saving, you can achieve your goals.:)

:j hope everyone has a lovely money saving week end!

My budgets all going well at the end of week one, not saved much from grocery spends, but stuck to within the budget!

Week 2 plans- stick with £120 grocery budget for everything, including food for all 4 of us for pack ups for work.

Get xmas shopping completed within the budget, anything left straight to mortgage!

    morning everyone!

Off to mr T, hoping to have small shop this week, really need to defrost my freezer, so trying to run it down, will try to resist too many fattening " treats" too, as gained 2lb this week through eating c**p!

Will make small overpayment with any money saved from grocery shop this week as incentive!

Had a rubbish stressful few days at work:(, so going to try and relax this weekend and not dwell on annoying things that i cant change there, i do tend to dwell on issues at work too much, wish i was one of those people who forget it all as they walk out of the door at the end of the working day! i suppose this sort of thing is another incentive to be mortgage free..
    :)

thank you Newgirly, it was a lovely relaxing day!

its funny having bonfire night as my birthday,as i never go out as i cant leave poor terrified pets! I,m not a big fan of fireworks really, they seem to start weeks before and go on for weeks after the day, they are a menace to pet owners really, and to other people im sure. im not a party pooper, but one night is enough!:)
