mobility scooter insurance and breakdown

in Disability money matters
ive just got myself a mobility scooter on an 0% interest plan,
and they advice liability insurance and breakdown insurance they offer a package but its far more expensive than the few ive found,

do i need liability ins for pottering around the village?
breakdown i can understand as ill not be able to push it home.

im trying to look on line (im rubbish at it)for breakdown ins ect

anyone using a good company they can advise

    If you are only pottering about the village then I think you can forget about insurance.

    If you break down, just simply call a taxci and get them to take you and the scooter home - tell them you have a scooter when you call.

    Liability insurance is for if you run somebody over - rather an essential I should think - maybe a legal requirement. If not then it should be, the way some mobility scooter riders dash around our local precinct!

    It doesn't matter how much you potter you need Public Liability.
    Never pay on an estimated bill

    nope insurance of any kind is not required by law,

    You say it's a big scooter - is it one of the ones that must be registered with the DVLA and have its own numberplates?

    Another point to consider is would it be considered too big for the rider?

    mobility scooters do not require dvla registration,they are limited to 4 mph or 8 mph for road use, but must have lights,indicators and emergency brake system to go on the road,
    personally 8 mph is to slow to be on the road unless there's no footpath for a short distance,

    Hiya,

    I have a habit of saying the obvious - so hope the following does not offend...

    Please make sure you know where the switch to dis-engage your motor is - otherwise you will need a bulldozer to move it manually.
    I once witnessed two young Sainsburys lads trying to push a bloke home in his scooter. They were almost having to lift it. One flick of the dis-engage switch and they were on their way rejoicing.
