Am I being unreasonable?

How does that apply to you? Or is this one of those generic, ah but what if I was pregnant, my child was in hospital, I was adopting, etc etc. hypothetical scenarios?
Anyone can apply for flexible working, not just parents. (and it's a request)
Nowhere does the law say that an employer must accommodate your childcare, nor allow you to have whatever leave you requested.
I wasn't asking about childcare, you're the one who started spouting about employers not having any responsibility towards working parents, I'm simply setting you straight on that subject. You don't like it? You'll just have to live with it.
My children are 13, 12, and 6, I have worked for the company for 10 years, work through the summer holidays, most half-terms, and all over Easter and Christmas EVERY year. Now, unless you have something constructive to add I suggest that you desist from replying further.0 -
Sort of understanding why the manager isn't very accommodating0

You mentioned that you would have to leave your kids home alone.
You didn’t set me straight.... but ok
I have 3 kids, 11, 9 and 6 and works every holiday, every year. I also have a dog and 4 cats. Is this top trumps or something?0 -

I mentioned that he was putting me down for shift swaps that I am unable to comply with i.e outside of my contracted hours and when stated that I cannot comply with them, I remain on schedule anyway. I DON'T have issues with childcare as my contracted hours fit around it, extra hours are for me to take or leave, they are not compulsory.
Anything else you have difficulty with?0 -

BoPsie worked in retail, and hated October through December, when holiday was restricted.
She no longer works in retail!0 -
When I worked in the supermarket game, anytime I knew I needed off I kept to myself and then called in sick. I know this is not good, but 90% of every holiday requests would either be knocked back, or they would do what OP's employer has done...yes, but you need to come in for a day or whatever.0
