Am I being unreasonable?

I have covered others shifts, the trouble comes in the form that he is simply putting me down as covering shifts when I'm unable to, and when I decline I'm left on schedule anyway.Rights are the same for everyone. What you are referring to is "wants". Wants are not laws.
And you are wrong. The manager doesn't want someone to come into work in the middle of their holiday. They want them to come in to work on a working day.
This situation appears very much to be of the OPs own making. All their posts indicate that they are never flexible to help out others. Maybe, depending on contractual terms, that's their right. But it comes home to roost - they cannot now complain that someone else won't be flexible with them.
They have covered other shifts. Whether they do their fair share (by any relevant definition) is up for debate, and I guess will be found out by the OP if they can or cannot get their shifts covered in return...0 -
Ahh so much I relate to in this thread.
How many times I've heard - 'I'll take it unpaid, someone else can cover it'.
You know what that line should read? 'Would I be able to take it unpaid, XX has agreed to cover it for me'
It's not your managers job to babysit you. It's not for them to find someone to cover your shift because you want it off and they couldn't authroise it for business reasons. You do it yourself.
Take the solution to your manager and I can't see why they would refuse?!
Shouldn't be hard to find someone to cover you if there are people on the team available and you all do each other favours. Might be a problem if you never do anyone favours or there is actually no one else availalbe to work which is why you were refused leave in the first place.0
