Hi All
Does anyone have the cancellation number for Setanta Sports? Also, the address you sent your cancellation letter to? In case they don't remember the phone call.
Cheers

dont forget to log the call and send the letter via recorded delivery too they have not come backs if they try and fob you off saying they did not receive it.0 -
Cheers.
When I rung them earlier today they said I have to phone back on the 30th November because I can't cancel within the first 30 days. Do you think I will be able to send the letter this week saying I want to cancel at the earliest possible date or should I wait nearer to the 30th?0 -
I received a response from Setanta today.....
......They want me to re-subscribe and pay them more money!!!
They owe me money!!!, my 3 months subs have costed me appxox £46 per month ...Cheap at half the price not.
OFCOM here I come, June first reported and November still unresolved.
Dream on Setanta!

Hi Grimzz,
That's a ridiculous show of incompetance to ask you to re-subscribe. You've paid good money for a service they are failing to provide for you and therefore have every right to report them. So long as you can show that you have given them ample chances to correct the situation (ie proof of postage for the recorded delivery letters and the incompetant response iteslf) I don't see any reason why Ofcom wouldn't help you. Good luck with it.
Regards

I originally wrote this on another Setanta thread...
Im really annoyed with Setanta, I bought it a week ago just so I could watch the Calzaghe fight. I saw the £5 a month no annual contract and thought it was a great deal, I would pay £5 watch the fight then cancel straight after. Checked my bank balance, was charge £15, I now know that is a connection charge, which was not mentioned anywhere on the website where you click through entering all your details. Surely you should be presented with some kind of bill stating what you will be charged, not a charge hidden away somewhere that you can never see unless you read through the massive T & Cs??
They had an offer in the paper stating £5 for three months (£9.99 after)....also in the VERY small print it stated...that there would be a £10 connection charge for new FREEVIEW customers only!!!.....having sattellite(no pay channels btw..just free to air ones) i rang SCAMTANTA and was told by a customer service rep based in Liverpool that this was indeed correct!!...being on sattellite i would not have to pay the £10 connection fee.... i told him that i was just signing up for the boxing and have every intention of cancelling on the 1st of Dec.
No problem i was told... cancel on the 1st of Dec this would take me up to the 1st of Jan when the "service" would cease
Total for two months = £10
or so i thought..
Just checked my bank statement...
Nov 8th...DD...£15 paid out to SCAMTANTA SPORTS
Rang their "customer servieces"
Asked the female rep (in Fife) if i had been charged for the three months at
£5 a month in advance!!
(which would have been very cheeky anyway!!)
No...i was told....
The £15 was ..
£5 for the month...
and a... (wait for it)
£10 CONNECTION FEE!!!!!!!
WHAT!!!!!!
I told her about the newspaper offer... and how one of her colleagues in the Liverpool callcentre had confirmed it!!!!
She went away to check..then came back saying no one where she was had any knowledge of this offer!!
And the £10 connection fee still stands!!
I was then told if i wanted to cancel i would have to do so Dec 1st..
(which i was going to do anyway)
So they "had me off" for £10...
but as far as i'am concerned..
it's not about the money...but about the principle!!
What they seem to be doing amounts to nothing short of commom thieving
A matter for who..
Trading Standards?

I got Setanta on the internet £7.99 a month, it keeps going off while i am trying to watch a match so i tried to cancel. I cant get anywhere so i went to my bank to cancel. The bank said they cant cancel it because its not a direct debit, its coming straight off my card:mad:0

HI Kramster,
I'm afraid the only thing you can do is what Trading Standards have suggested - do you have proof that you sent any previous letters? Emails and phone calls to Setanta are useless I'm afraid. If you're starting from scratch then send a letter detailing your complaint and professionally request that it be replied to within X working days (7/10/14 are the norms.) Send it recorded delivery and keep the proof that you have sent it this way. If they do not reply within the timescale you have given them send a second letter addressed to their Chief Executive saying that you have sent a letter in which you requested a response within X working days and this has not been complied with. Request again that this letter be responded to within X working days or you will be forced to take the matter to Trading Standards/Ofcom. Again send it recorded delivery and keep the proof. If they again don't reply within the timecsale then you can take it to trading standards/ofcom and ask them to deal with it as you will have all the necessary proof to show that you gave them more than sufficient chance to rectify the matter themselves. Good luck with it.
Regards

(Deleted at the request of OP)
The deal with a prepay pack is your first month and connection fee are included in the pack. The Setanta on Freeview pack bills in advance, if someone is subscribing from scratch they would pay the connection fee plus month 1 and 2 at point of sale (£29.98)
Effectively you are paying your last month at the start of your contract.
It is widely advertised that way.
Hope this helps.0 -
Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply Michelle, yes I’ve got proof of the first letter I sent it recorded delivery, and have had automated replies to the emails I have sent, so would imagine that constitutes proof of them been received even if not replied to, will send second letter to chief executive, once time scale from first letter has expired.
Do you have his address? Do you think I should cancel direct debit if they don’t reply to second letter, as I really begrudge giving any more money to this firm, as I don’t think I will ever get it back.
Once again thanks a lot for help.:T0
