I sent their complaints department a letter requesting a refund on 01/08/07 and again last week and have yet to receive a reply or any acknowledgement

Did you send both by recorded delivery? If not you're bound not to receieve a response as they can just ignore your letters and pretend they never received them. At least if you send it recorded you then have the proof that they've received it if you need to take things further.

    Regards

The first one wasn't, but last weeks was sent via registered mail.
  • another dissatisfied setanta customer rang up today to cancel pushed from pillar to post on the phone .
E-mailed 6 times no reply got really fed up .
The company are a joke and virgin have scored an own goal by affiliating with them.
Will be e-mailing them to confirm cancellation, not convinced i will get a reply though.
It is their responsibility to let customers know that ITV on digital boxes do not work with them now did they no. Shall be writing a letter of complain asking for my month's subscription back.
Note to all Potential Subscribers Don't bother with them at all regardless of how good the offer looks.

    everyone should go here

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/consumer/tv_and_radio/watchdog/376170374374374374

tell all these story's to them.

I was stung by the hattan fight, £15 & 2 month free, rang on number (which has changed) 1 month before end of free offer & they cancelled (so they said). got to end of free offer & they rang me. trying to sign me up at £9.99 , to which I said no & they just took £15, so I've cancelled direct debit & now I'm waiting on the nasty letters. to which I'm going to forward to watchdog.

so it makes no difference if you can cancel on the phone, they carry on
taking the money unless you cancel DD

There is a new website for disgruntled consumers to bring attention to shoddy business practices.... http://www.youthejury.co.uk. I have started a thread there on Setanta, please feel free to add your comments and build up a data base of dissatisfied Setanta customers. The moe pressure on them to treat their customers with respect, the better. Cheers.

Similiar experience to others, I got the Hatton fight buy one month get 2 free. Sent them email to cancel giving 30 days notice. They replied 2 weeks later to say they cant cancel by email. I wouldnt ring 0870 on principle. Sent a letter & not heard back. I cancelled D/D to ensure I wouldnt get charged. They blocked my viewing 2 weeks early, they wont put it back but they do keep ringing me each evening so I let it go to ansaphone so they waste their phonebill. Wasn't bad for a net £5 for 2.5 months but i wouldn't have a contract with them - cowboys!!

  • Is it not amazing that if one 'googles' Setanta Complaints, one is led to so many sites.. Let me give my gripes with this awkward and uncommunicative company..

Living in Scotland, I have received Setanta since 13th Aug 2005 at £15 per month, payable up front at £180 per annum.. It was only Scottish League games and that was fine..The warning sign was in my welcoming letter when I was informed that my subscription would be renewed the following year 'unless otherwise instructed by yourself'. A letter to Setanta informng them that I would let them know if I wanted to continue was ignored.

A letter from Setanta on 2nd Aug 2006 that £180 would be taken from my credit card on 6th Aug 2006 2006. Well why complain, I was getting what I wanted?

On 3rd Aug 2007 I was sent a circular offering me a much enhanced sporting package including English Premier League and USA PGA Golf at £9.99 and no annual contract!! So much more for one third less.

On 6th Aug 2007 Setanta Sports removed £180 from my credit card account without any authorisation from me..

Emails regarding this iniquitous discrepency when eventually replied to suggested phone calls.. Phone calls, expensive ones at that, suggested letters.. Letters are blatently and callously ignored.

Why is Setanta acting like this? Why do they allienate original and faithful customers? Why are they so incapable of communicating with their old and potential customers in a civil and businesslike manner?
  • sandymc they are incompetent in dealing with customers for instance i cancelled by phone as given 30 days notice last week. I e-mailed them to confirm this cancellation , to be told you cannot cancel the account via e-mail duhhh i did so by phone . E-mailed them back saying cancel the account immediately and mentioned watchdog and ofcom to which they replied

was that the issue no it was not , cancelled my direct debit I have fulfilled my end of the contract now its is there's to deal with it.
Also something interesting people may want to know is that they generate a different code for each direct debit transaction so it does not remain the same. If you cancel a DD with them they still have carte blanch on your account. Keep an eye out two days before , after and including your payment date if money is taken out contact your bank they can stop payment from being taken . Warning this can only be done on the date that the payment was taken out.
  • 1I'm back, cancelling setanta is a no go

canceled setanta on phone 23rd july which they didn't do as direct debit was still in place so kept taking money, so I cancelled direct debit. they then rang me during england match, and said I was cancelled on the 20th sept. which I am (service wise), I want to know how to cancel these letters ;o)

Thought I'd cancelled setanta on phone when they contacted me on phone. OK I'm not getting the service(and owe them nothing) but still getting the letters about setting up the direct debit & they haven't been able to make contact with me by phone (they have).

think they want me to ring them NO CHANCE, email is a waste of time, as all setanta say is they don't cancel via email.

new dictionary entry : canceling setanta = waste of time.

since I owe them nothing, I'll just let them pursue me through the courts if they want as it will cost them, used to work in finance office and they would write of debts below £15.
  • quote=fedupconsumer;6346269] was that the issue no it was not , cancelled my direct debit I have fulfilled my end of the contract now its is there's to deal with it. [/quote]

now you can expect the nasty letters, you could send them a email saying blah blah blah and they would send you a email back saying they don't cancel.
  • if they do sima i dont care i fulfilled my end of the contract by notifying them i cancelled and im not allowing them any access to my account.
