novelli - if you can receive a Virgin signal, then you can pick up the T-mobile 2G signal (that is what Virgin use). Therefore, the T-mobile USB modem will work - the modem is free if you sign up to £20 per month for 3GB of data or £35/month for 10GB of data. If you are not in a T-mobile 3G area then the speeds will be similar to dial up, but the modem does come with automatic compression software to make photos etc appear quicker. This is one of your only options without a landline.
