£50 portable DVD with 4.5" screen

Argos currently has a special offer on its

Ventura Portable DVD player with 4.5" screen, its £49.99

Have a look here

Now let's not claim it'll be the greatest quality in the world, nor will is the screen an Imax, but if you want a diddy dvd that's watchable it's a very good price

Update Note

Someone below has added a hack for making this a multi-region player (it just means adding a code in and then it can play discs from anywhere in the world)

Tesco have reduced their portable dvd player, much nicer looking ;), with 7" screen to £99.99. Technicka I think its called.

Richer Sounds also have the 4.5" Venturer at £49.95 so I think it could be a general price drop - hardly surprising really as the 4.5" screen is very small and the price of the much preferable 7" screen ones has dropped to around the £100 mark now, even under £100 in some cases.
  • Remote hack for making it multiregion:

    1 Open Tray
    2 press 81328
3 press enter to scroll through regions (select 9 for multi region)
    4 press menu
    5 close tray

It will also play SVCD and VCD 2.0 when you make it multiregion.

This would be excellent for Kids as there is a big difference in them 'wrecking a £50 player and a £100 player. Plus this is a hell of a lot better than those overpriced and near useless Video Now players.

Looks like Valutech have reduced the price of their refurbished models a bit as well.

So to save an extra tenner (£39.99 delivered):

    Valutech 4.5" Venturer

The Valutech version is refurbished so may have minor scratches on the case, and only comes with a 6 month warranty.

Haven't gone through the whole order process, but the Valuetech site does say delivery charge £4.50+vat will be applied unless specified otherwise.

I believe Valutech's is "otherwise specified". On their homepage:

"Only £39.99 Inc vat & carriage!". Strangely it shows as £39.95 when added to the basket.

If in doubt, you can order by phone 01793 786650.

  • Personally, I'd rather pay the extra £10 and have a new one. You can also pick up the accessory pack for half price (£14.99) if you buy this player from Argos. The accessory pack includes an in car adapter, audio and video leads to plug the player into a normal tv, along with the scart adapter, headphones and a proper case that fits on the car seat to enable comfy viewing in the back of the car.

The multi-region hack definitely works as I've just tried it.

  • Somerfield are doing a 7" Medion for £99.99, I got one and it is pretty good quality and you can make it Multi region with a hack apparently.

Does the multiregion hack works for a US DVD player?

My husband won one (hooray) at a conference but it's a US one and won't play any of our DVDs...

Anyway at these kind of prices, might have to buy one to keep the kids quiet on long journeys.
