I brought one of the refurb ones from value tech about 3 months ago and made it region free with the simple code and also will play VCD SVCD and all my own recorded dvds oh and mp3 and Jpegs.
I have it plugged into my TV and just unplug it when I want to take it with me. The picture quality both standalone and when conected to myTV is Excellent ( 28" widescreen TV) and as you suspect sound comes from the TV. In order to conect to the TV you will need to buy an AV lead or buy the accesory pack which is good value at half price (14.99) at Argos as it includes a holdell to attach to the back of a car seat as well as all the leads, headphones and cigar lighter power supply.
I also have a panasonic LV50 portable region 1 player and the picture quality on the Venturer is comparable the only real difference is the build quality on the panasonic is very solid (metal) and the venturer is a bit plasticty,However for 49.99 new its very good value for money and I for one would recommend it.

that does sound excellent value for money - not seen an 8" one anywhere near that price before so it is heartening to see the prices dropping on the bigger screen ones too.0 -

Tutchy,
Thanks for this really helpful feedback. Just one further question if I may ...can you please indicate battery life when running standalone.
Thanks, Tony0 -

I'd be interested too. Been after a multi-region player for a while and it'll be worth paying a bit extra for one i can use while on the move too.0 -
I bought mine about 3 months ago (valutech) and in reply to those asking about battery duration, mine lasts the 2 hrs it says it should. Nuff time for at least one movie before needing a recharge. Excellent value. Im miffed as I dont have the accessory pack. Gonna cost me 30 quid unless anyone knows better.0

Toys R us have one for this weekend and it is a 7 inch one which includes the car accesory kit and it costs £99.990

In answer to typical_jock, I wonder if one was to buy the DVD player from argos and accessory bag (for £14.99), and change one's mind about the player within 16 days, if one could get a refund on the player without having to pay full price for the bag.
A hypothetical question, and morally questionalable. If one was to do it I'd suggest making sure you didn't open the DVD player from Argos so that someone doesn't end up paying full whack for a used one.
