BR TAX code

Options
Do I ask my employer or HRMC to avoid paying BR tax next month? Started a new job and first pay cheque, paid heavy tax on BR code. Couldn’t really afford another month BR tax code!

Is this a second job ?
What did you state on the starter form ?
Is this your only employment this tax year / did you give them your P45 ?
What does your on line tax account show ?
BR would be the correct code for a second job.  Your employer should only use that code if you told them it was a second job, if it is your only employment they should have used 1257LX.  Your tax account should show the status of your employments.  Who you speak to depends on who instigated the use of BR.

And same things queried last year as well.  Op, you need to get to grips with the new starter process and ensure you are on the emergency tax code when you start a new job.  Assuming that this isn't a second job.

And also the same in 2019 they do seem to be making a habit of this.
