Tax code BR

I have paid a huge amount of tax on my first pay slip. I notice my tax code is BR, how do I change this without a P45 please as I’ve never had this before - I always assumed my employer (education) would sort these when I started? Huge hit to my monthly income. Any help would be great as I couldn’t afford a second month where this happens…

Has your employer provided you with a new starter declaration?
If so what how did you complete this, statement A, B or C?
Ideally you want to get onto the emergency tax code but the answers to the questions above will help get you there.1
