Compensation for unnaceptable food

I am currently staying in a 4 star hotel on half board, The food is very poor and not what we would expect from a 4 star hotel. I have called the tour company and complained to the hotel but nothing is happening. We are having to eat outside the hotel.
Do I have any legal redress for compensation in this situation as we are not being supplied goods fit for purpose?

Stars do not represent quality they represent facilities.

    Which country are you in?

Did you check online reviews before you travelled?

No. Food quality and taste is a personal opinion. What you don't like someone else will love.

If you find its poor quality due to hygiene , food safety etc and claim "food poisoning" as so many do then you'll be up the proverbial without a paddle if you've been eating out as then you can't say it's due to the hotel as it could be from anywhere.

You would need to call the tour company and either ask to be moved to a new hotel or ask to be downgraded to room only and for a refund on the half board supplement but you might find its not as much as you expected.

Which country were you in? You may have grounds for compensation - best to contact your tour company directly!

Agree with post 3 and you cannot claim anything here at all unless it is going to give you food poisoning, Other than this you it will be due to your own tastes and there is nothing that can be done here.

    I am in Corfu.
Nobody would love thus food. It is bad enough to warrant photos.
I have already phoned and emailed the tour company and what has made me most angry is their lack of response and customer service. It is now a point of principal. I will follow it through on my return to UK

How do you classify food as "not fit for purpose" ? No-one forces you to eat outside the hotel, it's your choice.

Again then to explain this for you unless the food is contaminated in some way then there is nothing you can do, You are choosing to eat elsewhere and the hotel is not forcing you.

The only way compo can be made is by you getting sick from eating the food, You need to realise this and save causing yourself anymore grief, For this reason you are being ignored and or not responded to in a timely fashion.

Is the opinion of the food in the hotel unanimous amongst all the other guests?

We stayed HB in a small hotel in Sicily.

There was very limited choice but we enjoyed everything we ate
Most of the other guests didn't (complaints that there wasn't enough English food :rotfl:).

That didn't mean that the food was very poor.
Just not to the majority of people's tastes - or expectations.

I've had exactly the same experience. I could eat Turkish breakfasts with the delicious tomatoes, feta type cheese and amazing fresh bread for ever. I've also developed a taste for the black tea 'stewed' through a type of percolator. That doesn't stop other guests moaning about the lack of bacon and sausages! (and I still miss the 'rolled eyes' smiley).

OP you might be right about the quality of food but you haven't really explained what's wrong with it and whether others agree with you.
