If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments.;)

You can't. He can.
As for actually doing it. I wouldn't recommend it. The electric company will not be impressed to say the least.0 -

Why you cancelling the DD isnt the bill still payable regardless to whether the account holder is in hospital or not?Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0

Because he took on another supplier and then changed his mind and cancelled it, then went into hospital as we thought for a week or so which is not the case, I have now had to cancel supplier and go back with old one although that is in my name but his address due to data protection and I pay it, but the old suppliers still take the DD off and told me to cancel it, I did tell them I didnt think I could, but wanted another opinion thats all.If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments.;)

You can cancel it with Power of Attorney (which you likely do not have and would be very costly to get)
Could you not sneak a mobile phone into his room (bearing in mind the no mobiles rule) and get him to cancel it, or use the (admittedly expensive) hospital phones. Maybe even get his login details for internet banking and do it that way.
If he is too ill to commumicate then all bets are off. Power of Attorney would be your only choice.0 -
Thanks for reply, I am not his Power of Attorney only executor if he dies, which I hope is not in near future, will just have to leave it for time being and maybe any overpayments he can claim back if he gets back out, thanks againIf you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments.;)

If he has online banking - you can cancel it that way by simply deleting the mandate set up on his current account.
But if the supplier has told you to cancel it then that implies they're not activating it from their end (which is the only end that counts)? So it should be able to wait a while? If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Well if you can get on his online account with his permision you can cancel it online
