            apart from stuff already mentioned -
 Going abroad, I take a second spare wheel, as I once spent 3 hours in Germany finding a place with the right size tyre for a Citroen, and it cost £30 more than here.
 if towing, I take a trolley jack which I think is a bit safer than a bottle jack, though I'll also use the Citroen jack on a wood spacer.
 Spare trailer plugs and sockets, set of mounting screws for socket, and wiring diagram
 nylon tie-wraps
 ratchet straps
 collection of foreign maps, though I recently got a cheap sat-nav
 booklets of cheap hotel chains abroad
 2 or 4 hi-vis jackets, not just one
 insect repellent spray
 suntan stuff
 spare sunglasses
 ibuprofen tablets
 spare house key
 packet of 'tough hand cleaning wipes', bought as a clearance item, which I haven't tried out yet, but should be useful on the next puncture0

            i keep a tyre inflator with built in flashing amber warning light that plugs into 12v plug.
 spare bulbs.
 a torch. (which probably has flat batteries!)
 a couple of rags.
 small selection of tools.
 haynes manual.
 a litre of oil (i get mine for free so i wont be paying for it if i need it)
 plenty of cds.

 A hammer, lest he was locked in.
 A can of soup
 A candle, to give light and to warm the soup and car interior.
 This was back in the days when it could get VERY foggy on the moors.Watch out for the sandbag.0
