Thanks for the reply, exactly the sort of info i'm after. Interesting point about loss of terminal leave!!0

Glad my info was useful, As terminal leave is not in my remit you need to go to your psf/hr admin and clarify what the rules are for this as they are continually changing. My one bit of advice to you would be to go and ask the people that are paid to advise you before you make any decision your Resettlement advisor will see you for a general chat and listen to the advice from them they are the experts! Good luck and by the way all the resettlement rules and regs etc are in JSP 534!0

One thing to check is how PVR / notice affects your pension. I know that if I leave by PVRing I get less than I do if I hold on to the end of my commission. You can check using the pension calculator on the MOD website.0

Just a bit on Terminal leave.
My husband put in his PVR last August with an exit date of 02/08/08 he is currently on re settlement leave and will be starting terminal leave next week. So you do get terminal leave when you PVR.
Plus you can also take on a new job and get paid for it during your terminal leave.0 -
You get terminal leave on PVR.
Also your 22 year point will vary depending on which pension scheme you went with.{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
No not RN but RAF.
PVR is an option to everyone as you are applying to leave before completing your contracted time. As I am on a notice engagement I can also use this method to leave but it takes 18 mths as opposed to the 12 mths through PVR (as per my trade).
I am merely trying to establish if there are any benefits/drawbacks to either method? For example reduced resettlement benefits, eligibility for posting etc
Cheers
Good point re 6th Apr from the OP there:T
Mate, it would appear that you've already found the answers to your querie, however, you might consider visiting www.e-goat.co.uk the Unofficial RAF Rumour Website.
You can obtain excellent gen on all things RAF there - give it a whirl...

Could you expand on this please? I thought your 22 year point was, well 22 years from when you joined or your 18th birthday (if joining before 18).
I'm on the old '75' scheme
cheers0 -
One thing you may wish to consider is that IF the RAF decide to let you go early for any reason whatsoever BEFORE your 22year point once you have put your notice/PVR in, then you will not get your immediate pension because you will not have completed your 22 years from age 18. I heard of people in the RN who suffered as a result of this - just a buzz but like I say ... BE Very Careful - congrats on your service by the way, well done.Better to be silent and considered a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt! :rolleyes:0

On the new scheme (05) your service starts from whenever you join.. no time for the queen IYSWIM...so your time starts from 16 if you join then...
On the old it's 22 from 18 or date of joining if over 22{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
Just to clarify if you are in the RAF:
18mths notice cannot be turned down. You cannot then ask to leave early because of a job offer.
PVR is a determined length of time (see the Personnel bulletin on the Manning website - normally 12mths or 6mths for a few. Once you have a date you can ask to leave earlier again if you have confirmed job offer. Your section also need you to permit you to early. If there is not enough time to give you all of your leave (annual, resttlement and terminal) you will forfeit them and cannot be paid this.
When everyone talks about how much time you have served, they mean about the 'reckonable service'. Up until recently, the time anyone serves before the age of 18 does not count and if you are in Colchester and unpaid leave - parental leave and AML (additional maternity leave).
PSF (Admin offices) should advise you accordingly.0
