  • Hi

T-Mobile have definitely got a scheme that allows Armed Forces Personnel to suspend their account, even if they're in contract.

They require proof of being employed by the Armed forces and agreement that you'll extend your contract when you return.

    Hope this helps.

I called vodafone today asking whether they will 'suspend' my mobile contract whilst deployed on Ops - they will; all they require is a letter from your CO which you can email to them at their customer care website. Tell them the date you leave and they will suspend payments until you return. Once the phone is used again, they will restart your contract!

If you want to keep your phone on and make cheap calls check out webtel.mobi. It's brilliant for armed forces who don't wantother side to track their calls. You need a web enabled phone though.

Hmmm, really? Your grasp of Opsec and what the other side can or can't listen to is amazing. No mobile should be used on Ops.

  • Thanks for the advice! I got deployed 3 days after I started my contract with '3'. I wrote and they refused to suspend my contract, siad they had no means to do it (as if....). Armed with this info on their competitors I willwrite again. Cheers.

I think this might be a bit late for yourself lol but I think 3 are now doing account suspension for armed forces who are deployed overseas. not sure how you do it but my friend has managed it.
You can fool everyone but yourself!...............if you do, seek help!
  • Three refunded me four months of contract payments whilst deployed in the Falklands and I'm hoping to be refunded when I return from Afghanistan in the New Year.
If caught with a personal mobile phone in theatre you can kiss goodbye to your Op bonus.
  • as ever, i'd ring back straight after to make sure they have done what they say. blumming phone companies!

as for the fella who'd take their phone on op deployment...............

Just had a very good experience with T-mobile. Called customer services, they told me I had to join the Armed Forces Scheme, gave me an address and I sent them a letter with photocopy of ID card. I then got a phone call confirming dates I wanted to suspend the contract from. No fees. Only penalty is they add the time away to your contract. (fairly reasonable in my book)
Then they sent me a text confirming all that was agreed, with dates of new contract expiry clearly spelt out. Even wished me a safe trip!!
