Edit - the following was before I saw this new post before mine!

You should forget about your old dial up connection now. It sounds like you've done something horribly right not wrong! You are connected and will be connected through your ISP so don't worry about it. :T

Don't give up on it, it's probably just some stupid settings that need sorting out. If you had the connection once then it's possible.

Agree with Fran : the situation you described in your last but one post was correct and it's a terrible shame you've now uninstalled everything.

    - you were logged onto your router,
    - your computer no longer uses the dial-up connection settings (the DSL connection is between the router and your ISP so your computer isn't involved)
    - your computer's reporting 100M - which is what should be expected on a wired connection to a router. Your computer won't directly report the connection speed between the router and your ISP, because it doesn't need to know it any more than it e.g. knows the connection speed between two routers in your ISP's network - what it's reporting is the speed between it and the router. If you're desperate to see the conneciton speed from the router to the ISP, there'll probably be a config page on the router, but really if it's working there's no need to get involved in that.
I really must stop loafing and get back to work...
  • Soo,

your PC is now connecter to the Router (at 100MBPS) which is correct. Your Router is now connected to your ISP.

Its a bit confusing for you as basically your PC now talks to the Router and not your ISP now. I think you have been trying to enter your IP address in your PC instead of entering it into the Router.

The Router will normally sort out a different IP address for your PC to talk to the Router on.
